from some legal standpoints it is better to not be ccl and still have a weapon in your vehicle and home. Especially if you frequent places that do not allow personal protection via 2nd amendment.

On what basis would it be advantageous? From a legal perspective I can't see any benefit.

I had someone steal a fishing pole out the back of my truck that I'm convinced the perpetrator has used to keep illegally sized and quantity of fish. Guess I'm responsible for those crimes committed and the downfall of society, by leaving the pole in the back of my truck while going into a restaurant to eat.

I wouldn't hold you more responsible than the thief, obviously. I'm not for locking up or shaming people who get their guns stolen due to a lack of responsibility.

But yeah, it's kind of counterproductive to put a firearm within relatively easy access of people who could use it against those of us who advocate for self-protection (through 2A rights).

Some stolen guns help to take the burden off of the welfare system. There is always a silver lining.

The point of that post is it shouldn't matter what was stolen out of mine or anyone else's possesion. An illegal activity took place in the act of stealing.

Whether I leave a wallet, phone, laptop, fishing pole or firearm in my vehicle and its stolen the victim shouldn't be condemned for leaving the items in a manner that it could be accessed by a criminal, in the same regard that a person who is raped shouldn't condemned for wearing clothes that suggest that he/she should be raped.

It's not about condemnation. Feminists use the same argument about why women have no "responsibility" when it comes to rape. I agree that they don't bear fault for being the victim of a violent crime, but that's a different discussion from general self-responsibility. We don't want to reach a point where we're telling people "don't worry about avoiding bad areas" or "don't feel like you need to go out in groups or tell people where you're going" because that is too close to "blaming" someone for rape. Have to keep the concepts separate, IMO.

It's a touchy line, I've got no interest in crapping on folks who get things stolen, but given the nature of people who break into cars, and the relative insecurity of cars for storing valuable items, I just think it unwise for most people to leave firearms in vehicles as a matter of habit. I think owning and carrying a gun comes with heightened obligations to ensure something you can use safely doesn't fall into the hands of someone who may not use it safely or use it for ill will. We have to draw the line somewhere, and I think frequently leaving a gun in a vehicle is where I'd draw mine.

I'm done playing devil's advocate... Just stating that if you attempt to shelter yourself from the evils of people without a moral conscience or fear of consequences for the immoral actions they take you will without a doubt fail.

Well then it's certainly not the "truck gun" I'm talking about. I've talked to people (not on here) who will admit to having a car/truck gun but when I bring up a CCL/etc. they go "yeah I need to look into that." I just don't get it.

I keep a gun in my truck and have no CCL. I don't really plan on getting one either though I'm not opposed to it.

It would be interesting to have a city wide campaign to handout election size yard signs for people who are against gun ownership, and are willing to sign that they don't own a gun as part of that commitment to ethics. The will receive a free color coded sign that says, No1needsGuns.

Someone did that a while back going house to house actually. "This home is proudly gun-free" was on a sign and they went to some reportedly anti-gun writers' houses to see if they would accept it. Not surprisingly, none of them wanted to announce their homes were gun-free. Imagine that...

I had one stolen in college. Me and a buddy finished hunting on a WMA that closed to duck hunting at noon. We decided to do some scouting and thought it would be a bad idea to be caught with guns and decoys in the boat at 3pm. Left decoys in the bed and guns in the truck. When we got back both were gone. Still cheaper than the ticket that we would have gotten had we been caught with them.

I have a safe under the seat in my Jeep. Not saying they can't get in it, but they will work their arse off. I only use it when I can't carry on me. Typically I carry when I travel with my family or I go down to Florida to my beach house. Since it sits vacant often, I feel like I never know if someone has been casing it. But again, I only use the safe when I can't carry. I also bring my gun inside every night.
