New house with new sod. So there are some really saturated areas because it hasn't stopped raining in four days. Where I can see standing water it has that oily swamp sheen and smell. Is this temporary for new sod? Something else? Thanks

i wish i could help you. i laid sod recently after revising some of my flower beds and i was told to water every day for about 15 minutes for about 2 weeks then every other day for about 10 minutes and not to cut it for 30 days. thats all i got.

Ok bump. How can i fix these two spots where it looks like the sidewalk is blocking the water from properly draining?

First off I'd make sure you don't have a water leak. Idk about down there but in NWLA it's dry as hell now. If no leak, Looks to me like you need a drain where the water is running over the sidewalk (stained area of sidewalk in Pic #2) You might cut a gap in the side walk and lay a piece of metal over so the water can flow. or tunnel under the walkway and install a piece of pipe for a drain.

Say what?

That's just the porch, it's about 4" below the house slab.

There is no water leak, we've had rain about every day for 2 weeks.

I was wondering the same thing.

They must have way different weather in Abita.

They're small storms, it is possible to rain in abita and not Mandeville.

Well those puddles in the yard are a result of a daily afternoon rain. It's about to rain again as a matter of fact.

I know, I was just messing w/ you.

FWIW, I think you'll be fine. New sod can take a lot of water, although some water it too much and rot it out.

I also wouldn't worry about the low/wet spots until the sod gets well-established. Then you can see what you're really dealing with.

Fill in the low spots with some sand to prevent water from puddling up. Grass will grow strait through it.

I laid new sod last summer. All the rain we had through the winter and spring didn't bother it a lick.
