My 2012 Tundra (2wd) has 135k miles and it is starting to lose the smooth ride it had 100k miles ago. I'm hoping replacing the shocks and tires will help restore it. Does anyone know of any good shocks that are affordable and great for 99% road use?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

I had Bilstein 5100's on my 4Runner. Adjustable front, standard rear. They were great. I believe they make a set for Tundras.

I just put on Bilstein 5100s last friday. They are only slightly rougher, even though I put 35s. I'd say they are an improvement.

I recently put Monroe on my truck and have been pleased with them. Good cheaper alternative to bilstein.

Have you thought about OEM's since they obviously served you well and lasted a long time?

Monroe and KYB are both good budget shocks. Putting a couple hundred pounds of weight in the bed will smooth it out also

I have a 2012 also, and im approaching 100k. I just looked at the price of the bilstein, which isnt bad. Ive never had shocks replaced. If i ordered these, what type of place would i bring them to be installed? Just any mechanic? How much cost for labor we talking, if i dont put them on myself?

Tire shop put mine on, along with shims up front and shackles, poly bushings in the back for a few hundred.

Its something you can do yourself, but I dont like messing with those springs.

Side note: 5100s are height adjustable. You can bring the front of your truck up with them.

Toyota loves Bilsteins - my Tacoma drove like a new truck with them. I'm sure that will work for the Tundra.

I have bought from eshocks and shockwarehouse before with no problems. They are typically the cheapest unless someone is having a sale.

Just a guess, but probably $300 in labor. The rear ones take all of five minutes per side, but the front is more involved because the shock is inside/connected to the spring and it requires disassembly of the strut to replace it

Order the oem TOKIKOS for cheap. Toyota and nissan oem parts are cheap as hell online.

I'm using KYB Gas Adjust on a GM G-body and recommend them.

Ok, so you have a 5yr old truck, with 135k miles, you obviously liked the way it handled, and driving was good? Why not consider OEM...

You can always do better than oem for stuff like that. If you have to get in there, might as well upgrade it.

Not always, you can spend more, or less, not like the results, and go back to original. Waste of time & $$$. If you like what you had, keep it original...
