The How Many Rods thread made me realize I need another quality rod & reel. My current setup is a 7'2" M 13 Fishing Omen Green with a 3000 Stradic FJ For fishing inshore around Lake Borgne and Lake P.

For the new reel I have decided to get the Lew's BB2 Inshore speed spool as I feel I need a baitcaster (which will be my first). What should I pair it with?

Anyone have experience with the Lew's speed stick? I would get another 13 Fishing, but their M is more like a MH and I want something that can fling 1/4oz jigs.

What's your price range? I've read a lot of good things about Castaway rods and American Rod Smith rods.

Duckett micromagic seven foot medium. I use mine for 1/8 to 1/4 oz shaky heads and the occasional jerkbait.

It has a soft tip that loads up well when casting light baits, but not a buggy whip that will cause you to lose fish on a hook set.

I've got a Lews rod I'm not sure of the name of it but it's red in color. It's decent

On another note. Return that Lews, go on eBay and get a curado 201e7 for cheap. Or a 51e7 if you're into lightweight finesse type stuff. I've tried them all and the e series curado is the best. (Can't speak for the new daiwa tatula though, I've heard great things and I love my older team daiwa zillion)

Thanks, I will look into those. I want to keep the rod around $150, but willing to go up to $200.

Also does anyone have experience with the Lew's inshore reel? Is it worth it for the saltwater version? Is the only difference from the regular speed spool the three drainage holes?

I was able to get the Lew's BB2 Inshore LH from TackleWarehouse with 15% off yesterday so I jumped on it. I will go to local shops and try some rods to get a feel for balance. Having said that with the 7'2" 13 Fishing Med Fast spinning setup being my only other rod, what should I be looking at for the baitcast in terms of length, power, and action to give me the most versatility for inshore?

Just getting into artificials and really want to know what rod (length, power, action) the OB would choose if these would be your only 2 setups for inshore?

I'd get a rod with a little more backbone for maybe targeting some reds. That spinning setup you have is great for live bait. I'd honestly get another 13 fishing rod if I was you. The 7'3 M would be perfect

Anyone use a Kistler Helium 3?

Think I'm going to pair the Lew's inshore with a light/medium-heavy, fast Helium 3 in either 7' or 6'8". (10-14lbs, 3/16-7/8oz)
