Savage makes good shite.

You really have to go out of your way to find a bad rifle these days. They are all great by yesterdays standards.

I have never even held a tikka. Don't know anyone that has one due to not hunting with poor people.

Just got a tikka t3 super lite in 300 WM
Went into a search without a budget and it came down to the fact that I can't shoot better than a Tikka is "guaranteed" to perform for $900

I'm gonna sight in this week and see if they're as good as anybody who owns one claims

Once again, thanks guys. I was able to find a few friends that had a few of the rifles discussed. Going this weekend to try a few of them out. Will be shooting the following:

Remington M700 SPS Tactical (think he said it has an adjustable trigger??)

Browning 7mm-08

They are bringing a few random ones out there. Thanks again!!

Cool deal. If you get a Savage make sure it has the AccuTrigger.
Most do have adjustable trigger pressure.

Just don't get the lightweight model from Walmarks. I couldn't shoot more than 3 rounds before I gave up. And was picky as hell with ammo.

Remington 700s and Winchester 70s both have adjustable triggers (majority). The best deer calibers that are the most readily available in stores are .243, .270, .308, and 30-06. If you're a reloader, you can get pretty much anything, but I'm assuming you're not since most people aren't.

My dad has 3 model 700s (.243, .260, 30-06) and all three are great deer-getters. He also has 2 model 70s (.270 and .300 Win Mag) and both are excellent as well.

Any will work just fine but if you're trying to keep a tight budget, the Ruger M77 or Ruger American Rifle (a new rifle for this year) are great choices.

For a good entry-level scope, I would look into Redfield or Nikon. I have a new Redfield Revolution on my AR and it will shoot 1/2'' groups all day. The new Redfields are made by Leupold, so they are quality tubes.
