Looking to buy my first hunting rifle, want to start deer hunting. What is a good rifle for around $750 or so. Most of the hunting will be done around central Louisiana. TIA!

$750 for just the rifle you have lots of options. I that's rifle scope for $750 savage would be a great choice.

All calibers are good except the 243. It won't kill rabbits even.

But a 243-08 will murder entire villages.

Looks like I have a lot of research to do. Thanks for the advice so far! Will look around and try to find some friends with the mentioned rifle's so I can fire them.

Spend as much as you can manage on your scope. Most guns will shoot better than your average shooters skill level. IMO that is more critical than what make and model you buy and most here would agree with that I think. Good luck.

Yea i'll have to agree with Bar on the scope, don't put a cheap scope on whatever you get.

Ruger M77 can be had for 650. Solid gun to last you a lifetime. For just deer hunting, go with a .270, 7mm, or 30-06. Definitely don't skimp on the scope. I just bought an M77 in 30-06 and a Leupold VX2 3x9x40 and couldn't be happier with it. Shoots great! Savage, Tikka, and Remington also make good a fine firearm.

Go to gunbroker.com. U can make a great deal. I recently bought a Browning BAR with a leopold Rifleman scope for 650. It is the Stalker and is in 99 % condition. U should look at a Rem 700 in 308; 30-06 or 7 mm 08.
