Well after losing a vehicle in the flood like so many others, it's time to get a new one. Interested in a gm 2500. From doing searches on the Internet it seems that the models with the 6.0 gas engine have decent deals. Anyone have any opinions on this engine? Also, does anyone know of any dealers in the south la area that have been willing to work with buyers the most.

I've driven a buddy's 6.0 once but other than that I don't know much about it specifically. I have a 16 diesel that I really like.

Do you really need a 2500? Pay half and get a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

So without a trade you should be able to negotiate a good deal. The best place to do that is through the dealership internet department. Don't go walking around the lot and giving a salesperson your name or even worse copying you DL. Do your research online as to models and packages. Then send an online a detailed message as to what you want to a lot of different stores' internet departments. Tell them you want the very, very best deal. One time chance. And don't overlook Houston dealers. Now I know Ford is offering a special Flood Victims rebate and so maybe Chevy will too. And don't forget GMC since they are basically the same.

From shopping around on the Internet, found this truck for 45. That same truck with the diesel is 54. Is the diesel really work a 9k increase in price? I may tow something several times a year and it will not be a daily driver, I have a toyota that is my daily driver. As far as the flood victims rebate, it's $500.

I'm sure it will get drove everyday. But what I meant was that it will not be my main means of travel to and from work on a daily basis.

The diesel will give you better fuel mileage, more power, will last longer, and upgrades will give you more power and mileage than upgrades on a gas burner. That 6.0 vortec is a good engine but in a 2500 it will get terrible gas mileage and give you "less" power due to the weight of the truck. I wouldn't own a 2500 gas burner. You can get the same engine in a 1500, and you'll get a little better gas mileage and you'll feel the power of that engine more in the lighter truck. If you want a 2500, get the diesel and delete the egr and def, put a better air intake, and get a tune from Kory Willis at ppei and you'll love the truck and it will last forever.

The diesel IMO is worth it.

1-fuel mileage towing or not towing is better
2-You'll be happier while towing having the extra torque for less down shifting/easier acceleration
3-I don't believe you get the Allison transmission with the 6.0 however with the duramax you do. From a towing stand point Allison is leaps and bounds better. Have more engine torque means keeping the torque converter locked which mean less shifting, less heat build up. This is also where some of the price increase comes from.
4-Resale value is a hell of a lot better
5-tuning. You can add exhaust/intake/tune and add 200HP and have near 1000ftlbs of torque if you ever wanted.

If you are trying to stay in that price range for the gas burner, I'd drop to buying a used 06-13 or even 14-16 if you can find one..... just to get the diesel

Then again it comes down too
1-how often do you tow
2-how much weight do you plan too tow
3-what kind of distances to you plan to drive while towing

I have a 2010 Yukon Denali with the L94 (6.2L, 400hp/402tq)and that thing is bulletproof aside from the displacement-on-demand system (shuts down 4 cylinders when coasting). I had a tune put on the truck to turn off the DOD and the thing is such a beast. I imagine the specs for the new 6.0 would be comparable, although I'm sure the cam is a bit different.

If you're going with a 2500 truck, I would probably go with the diesel. The gas motor will last a long time but it has shortcomings compared to the diesel that may start to annoy you. A big truck like that needs torque and the diesel will deliver.

The diesel is nowhere near worth it if you don't need it. It's a 20% increase in price for capability most people will never use. Maintenance costs are substantially higher also.

I have a 6.0 Chevy gasser that was worked to death pulling heavy for 250k miles and it still doesn't burn a drop of oil. You can pull very heavy for a very long time with a modern gas powered 3/4 ton from any manufacturer. You'll burn a shitload of gas doing it, but $9k buys a shitload of gas.

This is all you need to know about them. I have one. Get the gas engine and get a bigger tank

This is just comical

If properly cared for it will last much longer, but I'm not aware of anybody wearing out gas burners these days. The odds of anybody keeping either one long enough to wear it out are just about zero.

And nobody cares for diesels like they should, because it costs far too much to do it.

Maintenance for a gas engine to 200k <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Maintenance for a diesel engine to 200k. It's not even close. You're talking probably $2000 including fluids vs $10-20k

There's a reason GM has been using the 6.0 for so long

Bapple, what tune/tuner did you use on your vehicle?

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3 that I'm looking to tune, not quite the same as what you have. thanks for any advice.

I had an '02 6.0 2500 that was the strongest truck I've ever driven. I loved it, but gas mileage was around 13-14 and 8-9 pulling my boat.

Only way I'd pay that much extra for a diesel is if you plan to keep it for 10 years.
