It's time to retire my old hip boots after patching them for the 100th time, and looking to buy a new pair. I've always worn the Lacrosse Big Cheif's and they've done well in the past. I can usually get about 3 years out of a pair but have heard the quality has dropped off in the past year or two. Has anybody bought a new pair recently and had any issues? Got any recommendations for others to try out? I will be using them in cypress/palmetto/sawgrass swamp and marsh so durability against rips and tears is important. Thanks for any info.

I bought a pair of the big chiefs beginning of last rifle season. Used them damn near every hunt (nasty arse swamp) and used them a few times in the offseason working in the woods. Last time I used them was for the flood and had water go over, but no leaks. No problems yet.

I don't what you need to buy but I can tell you what not to buy. I bought a pair of Magellan from academy and wore them one time and the next season they leaked at the heel and I returned them for another pair which hasn't leaked yet. Good thing is academy will take anything back.

Used my lacrosse all last deer season and a good bit in the office season cutting trees without an issue. So far this year they have not given any issues. Im hunting thick cypress swamp too.

I always cut old waders right below the crotch when they start to leak inevitably

My fiance got me a pair of the magellans from academy last year. Already broke one of the belt straps off. BUT... I can abuse the shite out of them and not feel bad. They made it thru last season and into this one so I think they were worth it. I think they are pretty cheap.

FWIW my next pair will be lacrosse tho.

Thanks for all the advice fellas. I'm really liking what I hear about the Dan's. May be giving them a try this year.
