We got a 10 month old German Shepherd Saturday. She was pretty beat up and really skinny. Took her to the vet yesterday for basically every test and shot. She sleeps outside on the back porch. Last night she was jumping at the door and whining all night. Is this a result of trauma basically at the vet? I can't keep her off the door and am thinking about a shock collar to teach her to stay off

ETA: She had hookworms and ear mites too. And Kennel cough

This is our 2nd dog in the last 6 months. I've never owned a dog before that. I have no idea what I'm doing.

Sounds like you need to learn how to take care of a dog.

Maybe I miss read, yal got her as a pup or she came to yal like that?

It was just one night dude. And yes, the shots and everything associated with the vet, coupled with her history, could make for an anxious night. Is she normally fine sleeping outside?

Don't run out and get a shock collar just yet. See how she does. And keep in mind that you could seriously frick her up with a shock collar if you don't know what you are doing.

She always jumps at the door wanting to come in but she can't yet. She has fleas, hookworms, ear mites etc. I have to get her well first and we have cats that she likes to bark at and they attack her. It's going to be a long process of getting her inside.

He means kennel training. Most dogs like to sleep in a kennel/crate after being trained. Just read over some articles after a few google searches.

Crate train her. Do not get a shock collar just to punish her. E-collars are for training and reinforcing things dogs already know. If you start burning her because she's jumping on the door, she'll probably become even more anxious. If she doesn't shut down, she'll only listen when the collar is on. Crate training is a much better way to handle what you're dealing with.

This may just be what I'm dealing with. When our other dog and we go inside, she gets nervous and claws at the door wanting to come in.

Sounds like the crate is the way to go. But i'd be jealous too if the other dog and cats got to go inside and i was stuck out.

Got any pics?
