I agree with this. I have the Xtrema 2 but I hunt ducks every weekend and during the week some. It's never jammed in the 10 years Ive had it. That said if I was a casual hunter or if I never shot geese I'd save my money and go with the A300 if you don't need 3.5". Everyone else I hunt with shoots Benelli and they love theirs. I don't like it. I find the stock is a little too short but they find my beretta stock is too long. May want to let your boy pick up a few Benellis and Beretta in a store and go from there.

I've been shooting a Remington 1100 since I was about that age. Still using it. They aren't cheap though. But it'll last.

I've got a good friend who is a smaller guy. He's around 5'8" and 165 lbs and he got a Benelli SBEII American when he was in high school. That was 8 years ago and it's still going strong. Only difference in it and the other SBEII's is it doesn't have the chevrons in the stock. I've been finding them on GunBroker for a while now for under $1200 where a regular SBEII is over $1600 everywhere else.

When I get ready to buy another shotgun to retire my 25 year old 870 express this is what I'm going to get.

I have an old Remington 1100 16 gauge. It was my dads first shotgun and then he gave it to me at around 12. Love that gun. Its my go to squirrel gun. Beats most shotguns made today.

Beretta has a new 3.5" out that is right at a grand. I guess it is basically the A400 without Kick-off. If I was buying, I would look at that if you wanted to up it a notch over the Outlander.

Personally, I own the Outlander and it is my go to gun over my Super Vinci.

I found the kickoff was a waste of money. I put a screw in limbsaver on my extrema 2. Compared it to my BIL's with the kickoff and the kick was basically the same. Saved me $170. I think the new A400's is integrated though.

I think so too. I guess their new 3.5" doesn't have it so they can shave off $500.

Then I'd save the $500 and get a limbsaver.

Beretta owns Beretta, Benelli, Franchi, and Stoeger.

I don't have any experience with the Stoeger. All the others are great. Santa Claus gave my son the Franchi Affinity compact for Christmas. He's put probably 4 boxes thru it so far and he loves it. I did take the stock recoil pad off and put a slip on limbsaver on it. He's 10 btw. I have an SBE2 and a Super Vinci, love both of those guns.

Browning has the new A-5 which is a copy of the original Auto-5 with the original Benelli SBE inertia action. It's suppose to be a really good gun and several on here have them and recommend them.

Since Remington was bought by the Freedom Group, there is nothing they make now that I'd buy other than some practice ammo.

Wincchester SX3 and Browning Maxus use the same platform. Maxus had some early problems but as far as I know they have been worked out.

My first shotgun was an 1100 20 gauge. With the good polished wood and really nice blued receiver. I was actually envious of my friends in high school who had Berettas and Benellis because I thought my gun looked dorky in comparison - I was a dumb kid. Now that it's been stolen I miss it tremendously.

I shoot a Franchi I-12. It has very little recoil and I have no complaints about the gun. I got it when I was 16 and I've put it through the ringer and have no issues.
