Need Help Picking Out a Rod and Reel Setup

I'm just starting off kayak fishing and I need some recommendations for a rod and reel combo. I have a 100$ gift card to Bass Pro so I would like to keep it around that price. Mainly fishing for reds in Surfside and Galveston. I'd prefer a baitcaster, not spinner. TIA.

A hundred dollars doesn't leave you much room to get the best value in a rod reel combo.

good luck. Maybe they have an off the shelf combo signed by Jimmy Houston that might work for ya.

$100 is kinda low for a rod/reel thats probably gona get dunked once or twice on a yak. you can get some of the entry level shimano spinning reels that you'd be happy with that will hold up to the salt. its gona be tough to find a baitcaster in that price range that won't crap out on you too soon.

I understand that, but I need something that will last a few months until Christmas and I can get something much better.

Congrats on the yak life.
I know nothing about fishing for specs or reds, but for 100 bones you can get the BPS "Tourney Special" casting reel ($50) and an Ugly Stik rod or something for $40. Should have some extra for a coke or candy too.

We will have you back in yak life by Nov 16th, no doubt. I just hope the birds decide to reward your paternal sabbatical.

Not yet, looking into the one that 007mag suggested. Going to Bass Pro tonight to see if they have it.
