Need some help. Been having fuel delivery issues everytime I'm out on the water (bulb won't prime, engine shuts down when I switch fuel tanks, etc.) Tired of it so now I'm overhauling all fuel delivery (except for the plastic piece of crap fuel tank, which i plan to clean out thoroughly and seal the valve good.) Can anyone recommend a worthwhile fuel line and primer bulb for a 60 hp Yamaha. Need something that is quality and will last....don't want to use Attwood for this. Would prefer in 3/8". Also, I've been using an attwood quick connect on the tank side - any thoughts on whether I should scrap this. Thanks in advance!

Are you sure it isn't the tank itself creating a vacuum?

Does the bulb collapse while running?

Nope, bulb doesn't collapse. I keep the tank vented while running.

Should have added to that it takes forever to prime the bulb. I was finally able to prime the bulb after disconnecting the hose from the engine side of the bulb, and holding my finger over the outgoing hole on the bulb in order to finally get it to prime. I suspect I'm getting air in somewhere - just not sure where. THanks for responding!

Go to west marine and get some of the newer fuel lines that will stand up to the ethanol better. they can cut it to whatever length you need. Sounds like you might have some bad hose.

I went to a rubber & gasket business & bought a new fuel line that is supposed to impervious to ethanol related breakdown. Having said that, I also stopped using ethanol blended fuel. Re: primer bulb, if possible have enough slack in the new line so that the bulb can be positioned vertically, opposed to horizontally when priming. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have the same exact engine and just had the same issue. The primer bulbs can go bad in a year or two depending on conditions and use so I changed mine out. I will give you one tip. The bulb has an arrow on it. That arrow needs to be pointed at the engine AND when you Prime it, and it MUST be pointed straight up or it will not work. I primed my engine for what felt like half and hour before I you-tubed it. Once I pointed the bulb straight up it primed in about 6 squeezes.

Thanks all. Went to ascension marine and picked up a merc oem bulb. Also, reworked all my connections, drained tanks, checked fuel pickups, etc. I just learned about having to point the bulb up only recently and will definitely try this out when priming. Still need to get some new hose but otherwise it SHOULD be good to go. Thanks all for the tips.

Any auto parts store sell this. Sounds like the check valve in the ball is going bad, leaking back thru. Ethanol will screw them up making the plastic check valve hard and not flex.

Had issues with multiple different brand bulbs with my 90 yammy.

Go to a Yamaha dealer and get a factory primer bulb. It's about $35 if I recall but I never had an issue after getting one.

Yep, that's what I did. Not sure if Yamaha makes one - had trouble finding one on the net. Went to Yamaha dealer and they sold me a mercury bulb, which I know is a pretty good bulb. Done with the cheap bulbs. Thanks.

I got mine 5+ years ago. It was a genuine Yamaha part. Came in a sealed bag with a factory Yamaha part # sticker. Got it from Cypress Cove Marine in Slidell.

Edit to add: Looked it up on a Yamaha Parts online site.

Here ya go!
