Never had a vehicle painted before so I'm totally lost. I have a vehicle about 10 years old, runs great but needs a paint job. Just looking for basic paint job to last 3-4 years. What kind of prices am I looking at?

Just a thought, a 10 year old vehicle should not need a paint job unless it's been wreck or sitting in salt water. It's usually the clear coat. Perhaps seeing about someone buffing it out?

The whole thing? 5-10K. I got a rough estimate on re-painting my hood and roof (F250) and it was $1500 from a small shop.

A good quality paint job on my truck would run me ~$10k. The best places obviously charge that. Crappy job probably $1-3k

Average paint job is about 3000, you can get it for more or less depending on what kinda quality your looking for

if you want a good paint job with quality (but not high end) paint used, then around $3500-$4000 is about average if no bodywork or dent repair is needed,.

if you want to change the color it gets more involved and labor intensive so the price jumps to around $5000-$6000

yes there are cheaper paint jobs that use cheaper paints and they wont look as good or last very long and then you will be looking bad or even worse then it looks now in 3-4 years again

I painted my 10 year old truck for $5000 and a year or two later the dash board cracked up and fell apart and I ended up selling it for $2800. think about that real hard. your going to spend more on the paint job then its worth.

my advice having made the mistake you are thinking about making is don't. just leave it be and enjoy your truck like it is. so what if it isn't pretty, its a truck, its reliable, and save that paint job money to pay for the truck you buy to replace it when needed.

Watch videos. Pawn shop for a good gun. Paint it yourself. If it sucks O well you learned something new.

A buddy of mine redid a jeep and painted it himself. Came out unreal nice.

Took his time to prep and sprayed inside his shop. Hugger orange.

My 2000 Accord hood was peeling, got the mid level paint job from Maaco in Prairieville, also replaced lenses from Amazon. Did it about 1.5 yrs ago and it's held up well. About $800 during an opening sale (think it was first car they painted). Overall very pleased with the job and value.

Friend has a Messican guy who paints his vehicles as he buys and keeps unique cars and trucks. Miguel would charge $1500 to $2000 and the paint jobs are awesome. He repaired and repainted the rear end of my Yukon and it is still fantastic 2 years later.

I'm taking my Tacoma to him shortly and that job, with some body work, is $1800, including the cot of the paint. I found a gold mine in Miguel!

He is inexpensive since he uses my friend's shop and equipment and the cost is basically his labor and the cost of the paint. He orders the paint and I would pick it up and pay for it at the paint store.

Is it clear coat failure or just a clear coat in need of some love? If you're in Baton Rouge I could do a 2-stage polishing job on your vehicle. I use a Rupes polisher along with a Porter cable polisher and some of the best polishes on the market made by Menzerna. If you need some pictures of my work let me know.

clear coat failure
Question: I've got the same issue on my truck - can the peeling clear be sanded back and oversprayed with a new clear and yield decent results? Or would that be a waste of time? The shop I got the quote from said if I went that route to use a 2-part clear. he said i'd get a little time out of it but it would probably look like shite. Just wanting to see others' exp. thx.

The only way to really get a consistent and smooth finish after clear coat failure is to respray the panel. I don't know how much of the paint can be salvageable and you may need a new base coat too. But polishing would not solve much once the clear coat starts to peel.
