I'm in the market for a new light action spinning rod. I lost a 5'9" Falcon Original fs-2-159 last year when I flipped my kayak trying to navigate a 3' fall on a river.

With sand bass (white bass, bar fish, etc...) season rapidly approaching, I need a short (under 6'6") light action spinning rod to throw small hair jigs, road runners, beetle spins, etc...

I already have longer rods and a sure enough ultra light but neither of them fill this niche. It's need to be short because I'm often dealing with close confines in small rivers but it also needs to have enough backbone to deal with fish up to 2 pounds.

What say the OB? I'll probably end up back with the falcon, but finding a rod thall handle these duties well for less than $100 would be great.

As a token of my appreciation, here are some pics of my fish from last year to get you in the right frame of mind:

I came here to suggest the falcon original light action. I use tge 6' though.

FS-IL-16

Ive tried a few different ones and always come back to the Falcon Original. Falcon HD sucks.

I have light and medium TFO spinning rods that I really like. Good price and lifetime warranty. Not sure where you are but I know Puglias carries them.

They make an ultralight also.

I have been buying these for a few years now and always looking for more. Just got a new Cabelas Fish Eagle UL in yesterday, and at $30, the quality is really high. My only issue is, it feel heavier than a 2-6 lb test rated rod should. I have two Falcons, but I think my favorite is the neish Allstar Panfish Series.. I have the 6' 4-8. I wish there was a 6' 2-6. The one I have sounds perfect for you, or if you want more of a challenger, the lighter one.

That looks just about perfect. Thanks. I'll run up to Academy this weekend and see if they have one. You running a 1000 size reel on it? I'll probably spool with 6 or 8# Nanofil (it comes in dark green now!)

I have various all in either 1000 or 1500. Newest is a Daiwa Legalis. You can't get better at that price. I've been using 4 and 6lb Nanofil. I want to dedicate one of my rigs back to mono to see if I lose fewer fish. Here is my Allstar with a Shimano I can't pronounce,

Slight hijack:

Sometimes I'll use a light spinning rig for trout under the lights but the line always ends up in knots.

Is it something that's just gonna happen eventually or do y'all do anything that helps? I usually use 10 lb power pro

I have fewer problems with braid and nano than with mono. OTOH, I almost always use a swivel between my braid and a fluoro leader. I think that helps a LOT.

Lighter lb braid is inherently prone to knotting up. Mono will help. If your using it for mostly under the lights I would switch to mono.

I've always heard that, but I've never really had an issue with it and I've used 20# p.p., 17#, 12#, and 8# Nanofil. Maybe I'm inherently doing something different without realizing it.

Well damn. Only one they have left at that price is a 2500. Too big for the rod I'll be getting. I just picked up a Cabelas Pro Guide series reel in a 2000 for a drop shot rod and I'm excited to try it. It's a Daiwa built reel with cabelas stickers. I might get another one of them in the 1000 size for the white bass rod I get.

I wish they still sold the Cabelas Fish Eagle Tournament II, because I have one of those in a 2000 and love it. Unfortunately, it looks like it has been retired.

Lol. Fair enough. Guess I'll go with the pro guide or check out what academy has on sale when I look for the rod.

I have not had good luck with Acad on spinning reel sales. OTOH, they are going to have several Shimano models that go up in price $10 at a time or so. Can go wrong there.

Hey, I went to Academy today. Nanofil is on sale, and they actually had lots of 6lb.

I have had good luck with using 15lb braid with about 10ft of mono on top. The braid does not twist up like the mono.
