Those really would not be that hard to build. Doweling jig, drill, miter saw and router would get that done.

Just got into the whole wood-working thing. First attempt ever ended with a nice 7ft bookcase.

Here it is about 90% stained.

Lessons learned so far

1.) Cutting straight sounds easier than it is
2.) It takes forever to find a complete project worth of straight boards at Lowe's.

Another OB'er showed me a dual battery tray/lid for the Native Slayer kayaks but they were $150. He wanted one and I had been looking for a better option than the camera back I had kept inside my hull to house my single battery, not that I really needed a second but why not. Here's the first one, and I'll be finishing the second one later this week. Pretty happy with these. Replaces the factory lid, has room to mount thru-hull fitting or switches if needed. I'll be putting my GPS/Depth finder on top.

AMEN to both of these. When i'm building a pine tabletop, i usually go to Home Depot 2-3 times before i have enough boards.

My latest table, in the middle of staining it dark walnut. Will be putting it for sale on FB/craigslist, hoping to do this a few times and get me a new lawn mower this spring. We'll see how that works out.

Looks great. I hope to do a similar table this summer.

This is so true. I've taken almost every board down off the rack just to find three straight boards, and then had to put them all back up. You get a good workout finding straight boards at Lowes.

Especially when the 2x8s are on the 2nd row up. I've had several workers scream 'Sir, please get down from there!"

Built a headboard and matching footboard for our new latex mattress. Gotta sand and stain it all. Oh and they sent us the wrong mattress so there's that.

I've gotten good at picking up almost perfect boards and hand planing them to be pretty good.

Honestly haven't decided yet. Was thinking $400, but the wife says $500.

What's your opinion?

You can always take less but never ask for more, ask $500

I watched a youtuber do a tutorial on this. His advice is to set a daily price for yourself. His price is $1000 a day, which I think is high, plus materials. He used an example of cutting boards. He said he can make 30 a day. $1,000 day rate / that by 30 the number of pieces and you get $33.33 a piece. He priced them at $35 to include his materials. Look at the Make Something Channel on youtube, its the last video he put out.

I'd say build a nice bench which won't cost but $10 to $20 and ask 600.

Thanks, will watch.

I've thought about adding a bench to it as well. Especially if i have enough leftover lumber.

They are clearing the woods next door to me in Broussard (to build a damn road, progress is destroying my paradise) and there is a huge stack of nice sized Oak trunks to be picked up. I think the guys cutting it will give some to anyone who comes to get them. It's Trees Unlimited doing the work.

where? Firewood sized?

Sport, the tab me is looking good.

If you sell it for $400-500, how much profit do you make off that?

With the price of good lumber, it must be difficult to make money doing this as a hobby?
