National Defense Authorization Act could allow CMP to sell surplus 1911A1

An add-on to the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that passed committee includes a plan to transfer the U.S. Army’s remaining stock of .45 ACP 1911A1 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
An influx of 100,000 highly-collectable handguns, largely all made before 1945, would likely revitalize the organization, and ensure its work for years to come.

And I will have to pay AL sales tax for mine...

Small price to pay to be able to get your pick. Best $100 I ever gave the Gumps when I picked out my Garand.

You know these will be slap wore-out, right?

So were a lot of the M1's they sold. I'm also sure there are going to a number of nearly pristine models that saw extremely little use collecting dust in Reserve and NG arms vaults, just like thousands of M9's, M16's, and M4's do today.

Good God that's some worn out weapons.

1911's are better when they're worn out IMO

I'm sure it will be like the garands. You'll be able to pick out the one you want to purchase and I'm sure they will have a few at a time for sale like the garands. Some people camp out days in front of the stores to be first in line.

Some of you are making assumptions about condition.
Uncle Sam has a good number of mint 1911 style pistols stashed away from my understanding.

Some of us know how soldiers treat their weapons too. There will be about the same percentage of mint 1911's as there were M1 Garands. I'm sure there a some that won't even be safe to sell as complete weapons and they'll be parted out. Some of those will become CMP Specials that will offer excellent function with the aid of non-original but higher quality parts installed.

How do these deals usually work?

Wore out or not, I want one. Besides, every Armorer I have turned my rifle or pistol in to has been an absolute dick

I'd be interested to see if they would sell these online with FTF or if they will be in store only.

I had a guy tell me that he was in one of the warehouse in Anniston one time and you would not believe the number of 1911's that were still packed in grease that had never been issued. He wasn't talking a few thousand either.
