Went to a city with no reciprocity for La (or anywhere else for the matter) and felt pretty uncomfortable in a huge city with no way to protect myself if anything happened. I didn't realize how freaked out people up North are about firearms. Glad to be home with my pistol on my side.

I like guns, and totally support someone's right to carry, but outside of a war or in the bush in Africa, I couldn't imagine being uncomfortable without one.

Exactly. If you are uncomfortable in a spot in a city, then you are doing it wrong... with or without a gun. One of the key learning points in conceal carrying is to not even position yourself in dangerous situations.

Go to northern california.

Meth EVERYWHERE. Reservations with meth EVERYWHERE. Drug production...EVERYWHERE.

The only time I ever actually missed the gun in the console.

I sent my wife into the convenience store for a drink while pumping gas and walked in after to see some guys blocking the aisle she needed to walk down to get out.

On a side note, apparently the south Louisiana accent sounds quite threatening

Even still, had they decided to try their methy luck, I'd have preferred a more effective weapon than the can of food I grabbed.

When I was in my 20's I was interested in CC.
I know shite can happen ANYWHERE but I just feel like I dont go places where shite NORMALLY happens. That and I like my beer, and that's a no no while conceal carrying.
I can't bring a gun to work either.

Fine. That doesn't make preparation wrong. The only time I am really uncomfortable without a functioning spare tire is when I have a flat. Does that mean I should not maintain the spare tire on my truck?

I'm with you. I'd feel naked without carrying in that crime-ridden cesspool.

Elaborate more about them hating guns though. Besides just general "guns are bad" I'm genuinely curious.

As a civilian you should never be in a place where you feel like you need a gun to protect yourself from peiple

The chances of me needing a firearm in any situation are almost zero. I take precautions when I can because I can. If it becomes too difficult to do so, then don't do it. But I wish the CC community would stop scaring the shite out of people by declaring it borderline irresponsible to decide not to carry on a given day.
