Nice Truck and looks like it's in good shape.

I had an '01 with the 6.0 gas engine and it would pull like an ox. Hauled a skid steer around N. Texas for about 7 years with it and never a single issue with that truck. Sold it with 163k on it and the guy I sold it to was thrilled to get it.

Vast majority of the issues came form owners who didn't follow maintenance procedures, added aftermarket tunes, and technicians who tried throwing parts at the problem instead of proper diagnosis.

When I bought my new truck, an 06 Chevy Duramax, I had a buddy that was a Ford dealership mechanic. I asked him about the new Ford motors and he said stay away from them. He said their diesel mechanic used to be the least busiest guy in the shop, now he is the most busiest.

I only have 82K miles on my truck but have not had one single problem with it. Yeah I have heard the injector and transmission problems people have had but now where close to the problems I have heard from Ford owners.

Fwiw, there is an actual Allison place on the Westbank. I'm not just talking about a shop that services them, I mean a place that only says Allison transmission on the front of the building, no other signs.

A lot of our industrial pumpers and equipment use Allison parts. That building may not be just for trucks.

It's probably not pickup trucks at all. Sorta like cummins doesn't work on the motors Chrysler buys, I doubt Allison has anything to do with the light truck transmissions once they leave the factory.

If you were honest enough to listen that might be possible. Pull your head out of your arse and we can have a discussion but you are going to have to start figuring out that citing internet forums is a lot like citing Wiki pages first.

As for the lifter tick you are much better off running a short OCI or two of Pennzoil Ultra or RP if you think it's a sludge issue. Seafoam is too volatile to hang around long enough to really clean and it can be too aggressive initially and really load up the filter or loosen large pieces that can get lodged in an oil passage. A little Seafoam or MMO in the fuel is fine but I'm not a fan of solvents in oil unless it's a last resort.

Hammertime, regarding the speedometer issue:

(Not sure if this was discussed already because I don't feel like wading through all the Chevy vs Ford and other arguments)

We have an '04 Sierra. Hubby said you may need to check the computer's settings and see if they match the size tires you have. If bigger tires were put on after it left the factory and the setting doesn't match the tire size, then it could give you a misreading on the speedometer. He found this out when he went to get new tires a while back and was thinking about changing the size.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about this or and not much about cars in general, so take that FWIW. Just thought this might save you some trouble.

It's a shame there is no ignore feature on this board isn't it?

I think they have the vent lines hooked up incorrectly. When I put fuel in it, it squirts out of the top of the tank somewhere

That's why I am gonna use the Auto-rx. You keep it in for 3000 miles as a cleaning cycle and the next 3000 miles are the wash cycle. After the 3rd change, it should be much cleaner. Definitely made my old Tahoe quieter

It came with a brand new Hypertech programmer, so I can adjust it that way

I tried that stuff and it really didn't seem to do much more than a short OCI. PU took the varnish off the dipstick though.

I'll explain it a little better:

So the aftermarket tank has two main sections that are connected at the bottom. Since those two sections are separated, they both need vents on the top. Those two vents come together at a TX and go into the factory vent hose that goes up into the filler neck area.

I think the problem is that they did not use band clamps on the two incoming vent hoses, and only on the main hose that goes up. I'll make a thread later about it with pics

Eh what, frick it. Here you go. This is the only place I can figure it is leaking because all of the other connections are snap fittings. It also leaks right near here, I just haven't looked while I was pumping

Its easier ti loosen passenger side bed bolts
remove drivers side bed bolts
Remove 3 7mm bolts under. gas tank door.
unplug lights behind bumper
lift drivers side of bed. I use a scissor jack.
That's the only way I'll do a fuel pump
probably had a pump put in and line isn't on.

As far as I know, you just swap over the factory pump. The depth of the new 52 gallon tank is the same, but it is just longer. All of the connections to the pump are snapped on tight

Now I have to take a shite, don't have TP, and can't go anywhere in the truck because the fuel tank is dropped. Life is not good
