My First Big Buck

I headed out last Friday morning for the Hill Country of Texas to our lease. The first morning of general deer season was crazy. I saw close to 20 deer. I was actually meat hunting and was looking for a big doe. Saturday passed with nothing I wanted to shoot. That evening another hunting in the camp killed a nice 10 point.
I was thinking about changing stands but I had seen so many deer that I decided to go back Sunday Morning. I got to the stand late because another hunting was holding me up. I wasn't going to be able to hunt late because I had to leave early that morning so I didn't have much hope I would kill a deer.
It was just breaking day light and I saw a deer about 1000 yards away walking towards me. He jumped the creek in front of me, walked behind some trees and came out on the other side. He turned broadside at 150 yards and I squeezed the trigger. He Kicked real high and ran straight up a hill and turned and looked directly at my stand. He laid down and I had done it!!!
(perfect double lung shot)
It's beautiful country up there. I hate leaving every time.
He's certainly not the biggest deer taken off our lease but he's a trophy to me.

Nice Hill Country buck there. Congrats. I also hunt in the Hill Country in Kerrville and this weekend, out of 10 of us (6 were clients), they took 2 average axis bucks, a huge cull 6 point whitetail, an average cull 5 point, 2 whitetail does, a young 10 point whitetail(was nice but would've been an a beast in a few years and we told our clients not to shoot the young tens but I guess he couldn't tell the difference?), and a really really nice high rack, thick and dark horned 8 point the morning we were leaving. We passed him coming in to the cabin when we were heading out of the ranch. Overall a good weekend also, but we passed on and saw others in the distance that were bigger than any of the ones taken.

Kerrville
Getting to go home in a week to get a little family hunting time in. Anytime you're in kerrville ya'll should hit up mamacitas and Rita's breakfast tacos.
And nice buck!

We usually hit up Inn of the Hills and every other beer joint around there. We've had 2 guys on separate occasions we have had to get out of getting arrested by the police in the bar. The locals sure do hate city boys coming in and having a good time in there establishments.
I echo the sentiments of the OP though. I love it up there and hate leaving on Sundays. Area is beautiful and I never knew it existed until I moved to Houston for work a few years back. Totally different from growing up hunting the woods of MS and AL my whole life.

Yea, a majority of the town are retired folks it seems like. Imagine growing up there! There was nothing to do but throw parties on friends properties and shoot shite.
The deer in the hill country aren't big, but quite plentiful.
