Snake bite

I would personally love to thank everyone who said I am unfit to own dogs because I'm such a piece of shite and all that good stuff. You can go run through a fire with your boots off. It is exactly what I first thought it was and the vet advised me to do exactly what I was planning to do; nothing.

Seriously, if you don't do something with that dog, you should be prevented from owning dogs in the future.

I understand dogs lived differently in the past, but so did humans. We don't walk around saying that humans should be relegated to past available treatments.

You're a humongous piece of shite if you don't either take the dog in or give the dog away to someone who will.

You need to run through the coals first

Well then, I guess stabbing it wouldn't have helped, but I'm still right because I said snake bite too.

But good to hear everything else worked out. Keep that healthy for the deer season!

well aren't you glad you did not go and poke it with a needle or lance it and use cow antibiotics on it?

Glad it all turned out good

He said I can lance it if I want, but he'd rather I not do it because the entire thing is not a puss ball. He said it's a small amount of puss with a tremendous amount of inflamed tissue around it, and chances are I'll have to poke her 6 or 7 times to find the puss. The reason it doesn't look like a typical snake bite (the only reason I had doubts) was that it was likely an extremely small snake or a big snake that didn't give her a full load. He said it was just enough venom to cause bad swelling, but not enough to cause widespread swelling. He also said the bite probably never made it to any muscle, and the venom stayed confined in all her extra skin causing the puss ball rather than a bunch of muscular swelling like you usually get.

Not saying he is wrong Just curious as to how he came up with snake bite. Did he find puncture wounds? One of the main clinical signs to help determine if snake bite is severe pain at site. Plus usually has significant bruising of skin and hemorrhage from punctures due to venom.

There's a few things that look like bites under there. Hard to tell because she's cut up all the time from running through briars and shite.

Not really. I was never worried that it was something fatal or anything.

I don't think hunting dogs feel pain or hunger. I saw a man shoot the back leg damn near clean off of his own beagle and the dog never stopped chasing the rabbit he was on until I killed the rabbit. Then a beagle with a shot off foot came and tried to take the rabbit from me.

Sorry, but he's been a vet for 30 years. I'm taking his word over yours.

This, and he's actually inspected the animal/wound.

ETA: Really enjoyed this thread.

Hounds definitely seem to be numb for pain. Our walkers get snake bit all the time and don't really give a damn.
