We have a camp in Lake Hermitage, La. This is south of Myrtle Grove and north of Port Sulphur. The Muskrats are destroying the already fragile marsh at an alarming rate. Does anyone know of any trappers or programs to relocate or destroy these bastards?

Ride around in a boat and kill them with whatever gun you want.

Muskrats

I hope for your sake you are actually dealing with muskrats. Because hell is about to be unleashed on you in here if you're talking about nutria.

I've seen it a thousand times... Bore the brunt of the storm quite a few times personally.

We have a camp in Myrtle Grove and saw that last weekend. Crazy what they have done to the marsh. Little condos all over the frickin place. The Bald Eagles looked like they were trying to do their part though. Saw six of them sitting on different mounds.

Muskrats, or nutra rats? You can shoot them all if you want, but they are gonna keep coming year after year. Might knock them back for a little while though

If you want to turn the OB loose, I'm sure they'd be happy to help

Muskrats are defined as furbearers.

quote:

METHODS OF TAKING FURBEARERS
All animals listed as furbearers may be taken only during the open trapping season
and only by means of a trap or snare.
Nutria may also be taken by licensed
trapper for fur and/or meat during the open season by the use of a rifle, only
between the hours of sunrise and sunset.

Should be defined as marsh frickeruppers.

Well, they've been in the marsh longer than we have.

Where is your camp? Is it along the main bayou? Growing up we had the little camp in the corner of the lake near Smith Bayou. Is that camp still standing? Haven't been there in close to 20yrs.

Is he sure it's a muskrat? Don't they look like small nutria with smaller teeth?

Do Nutria fall under the same laws?

We always shoot them anytime we see them, and take the tails to ole baw.

No. Nutrias can be killed without discrimination 365 days a year. Please, continue your murderous rampage!

Do nutria build mounds? There are 100's if not more than that of mounds all over the marsh.

We are not on main bayou, but on ridge on W.Kass lane. The camp at mouth of Smith's bayou is just pilings now.. The camps at mouth of Lake Hermitage and Lake Hermitage Bayou are still there. I cannot figure out how to post picture of marsh damage but its pretty significant! :bang head:b

They are definitely Muskrat's and not Nutria.. We've managed to trap and kill a few but there are hundreds of mounds in area.
