Had a friend that had the patch and took Dramamine on top of it. Completely dehydrated him, so wouldn't recommend combining them. I prefer Bonine as it seems to have fewer side effects. Must take one the night before and another at least one hour before leaving the dock. No milk, or sweet breakfast. Heavy dinner the night before, light meal for breakfast, toast or rolls best. Go to Walgreens or GNC and get some Ginger capsules, pop a couple of those at the first sign of being queasy (if testing eliminates the 420 solution).
If you are trolling, you are less likely to have a problem. It's generally the boat pitching and yawing at the same time while anchored or tied up that get people. And if you aren't at 100%, whatever you do, con someone else into doing all the knot tying and rigging for you. Trying to tie a knot on a pitching boat has sent many a friend to the rail over the years.

Dramamine and scopalamine are in the same family of drugs so doubling up on them will put too much in your system and you will have other issues that sometimes can be worse than sea sickness, much like when people put two scopalamine patches on.
My advice...
I prefer the patch to anything else. Put one behind one ear (ideally the side of your NON dominant eye) because it will dilate your pupil on that side and make up close stuff a little more challenging for a few days. Drink all the ginger ale you can as it will help with seasickness also. Keep a full stomach as that helps, and as painful as it may be if you get REALLY sea sick beer makes it worse.
This is from someone who used to never get sick then about ten years ago went on a three day trip started with calm seas then got to about 10' then calmed again, got sick when it calmed now get sick very easily.

10'
I hope that's a typo, do you realize how bad that would be?
I would have taken my arse to the house.

Real 10' seas is not something I'm fishing in.
Posted on 3/6/13 at 6:42 am to LouisianaChessie
I don't know anyone with a boat that would handle that.

I don't want nothing to do with true 4' seas in a regular bay boat. I'd feel safe enough to be there but I ain't tying to fish in that shite.

Can you do the patch and Dramamine? any issues with both?
IF YOU HAVE A SCOPOLAMINE PATCH, THAT'S ALL YOU NEED. DON'T ADD ANYTHING ELSE, IT WILL ONLY MAKE YOU DROWSY AND WHO KNOWS IF ITS SAFE. I'VE NEVER HAD ANYONE GET SEASICK ON MY BOAT WITH THAT PATCH ON.
Best meal that sits well on your stomach the night before going out
DOESN'T MATTER, FOR MOST, YOU WILL HAVE DIGESTED THIS WAY BEFORE 6AM.
Best thing to eat the morning of going out
ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY SETS WELL WITH YOU, BUT TOAST IS SAFE. JUST NO DAIRY PRODUCTS.
Dramamine the night before and morning of? Also patch behind the ear?
NO. JUST PATCH.
Ginger snaps and ginger ale before going? Or while going out?
PATCH.
Any other tidbits of home remedies or things to do and not to do would be great.
YOU ARE BREAKING RULE NO. ONE WITH THIS POST! QUIT THINKING ABOUT IT. SEASICKNESS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN LITTERALLY WILL YOURSELF INTO. QUIT DWELLING ON IT.
Hydration and solid sleep the night before prolly wouldn't hurt either
WHAT HELPS MORE, IS NOT DRINKING A BUNCH THE NIGHT BEFORFE. THAT'S A RECIPE FOR DISASTER.
Goen 60 miles out Friday (waves permitting) after some wahoo!!
GREAT. HAVE FUN. REMEMBER, EVEN IF YOU DO GET SICK, IT'S NOT A FORFITURE OF YOUR MAN CARD. IT HAPPENS TO LOTS OF PEOPLE, AND ITS NO BIG DEAL.

You'd be surprised what has made it thru 10' seas. I got caught in squall that recorded up to 10 in a 24' Ranger Bay. I was making about 1mph in it. That's the day I learned to respect her authoriti!

Never been seasick but heat can be serious. Shouldn't be a problem right now but in the warmer months, you need to try and stay out the sun as much as possible and stay hydrated, I'm sure that can't help seasickness.

Don't get hammered the night before, eat a light breakfast, use patch and drink some ginger ale while you fish. Don't think about it.

I'm getting seasick just reading this thread. I'm terrible offshore..

From my experience,Bonine is 20x more effective than dramamine, without the drowsiness. You can take a half of one every couple hours and not get sick or drowsy. One dramamine, even the "non-drowsy" makes me so tired I can't fish, and that's pretty damn tired. Everyone I've given it to says the same.

I bookmark every good seasick thread I see.
I used to not get seasick when I was young then I started getting sick in my 20's and wasted a few good trips even after taking all the usual precautions.
I took Bonnine on my last trip and did ok but it wasn't bad and we didn't stay out too long. It was a few miles offshore in a 24' Skeeter.

Been sea sick once, and it was when went off on a big Viking with enclosed bridge....that damn thing rocked and rolled, and when I came out of my bunk I thought I was gonna die. If it is mental, it got me on my 20th trip out! I prayed to throw up. Took about 2 hours to settle back in.
the patches work, but really clean your skin good and put on prior to boarding, have a buddy that uses them.

I never really have a problem, but I always take the meds in case. I've been seasick one time in a boat, and once in a float plane. It's an unbearable feeling. I think I take Bonine every time because 99% of the time I go offshore it ends up being 4-6 footers at some point during the day. Hell, I cannot remember going any in the last 10 years when we didn't get beaten to death at some point during the day.
