Has anyone figured out a good way to do this?

I'm wanting to mount a TV on a full motion mount on my deck but I don't want to completely destroy the vinyl.

Should I cut a section out and mount to the wood behind? Just crush and say oh well?

Looking at a 50 inch tv.

Use a vinyl siding mounting block. Should save the siding.

he's not talking about mounting an outlet cover plate or something, its a long metal plate mounted with lag bolts. Best bet is to cut out the siding in the way, mount to the wood behind the siding and trim around the plate.

I am having the same issue. I want to hang a TV on the back porch, but don't want to damage the siding. Also, are you going to just screw into the plywood behind the siding or are you going to locate the studs? I'm having a hard time finding the studs behind the vinyl and plywood.

I had this question at my old house and ended up using a ceiling mount that I screwed to the side of a joist under the eave.

I don't have vinyl siding but I went the ceiling mount route on the back porch as well.

I was planning on just going into the plywood. It's not like tv's are super heavy nowadays.

Not sure I want to the ceiling mount either.

Here is where it will mount. Not that little TV, getting a real man size one

I drilled mine straight through the siding into a stud. I'm not concerned if the siding has holes in it. I won't be taking the mount down even if I sell this house. So someone else can put their tv up without having to mount a bracket. If they don't want to then they can pull it down and fix the small holes

My plan is to build a box to mount the TV in and mount the box to studs with a 3/4" gap between the vinyl and the box. I have some 6" Hanger bolts for mounting.

Could you pop out the one or two siding pieces and screw in say a 1/2 ply to the existing ply so the siding won't suck in?

You should be able to find a stud 16" to 24" off of that corner. Go from there. Read jojothetireguys' post as well.

Bought an outdoor mount compatible with my 50" LCD
Found a stud outside near where I wanted it mounted.
Used a Sawsall to cut the viny carefully.
Drilled the mount into the stud.
Hung the TV.
Attached the cover that hide the bolts drilled into the stud.
Mounted electrical box and outlet to the side of the same stud.
Have never had an issue.

Not a bad idea at all. Even if you didn't build a 'box' per se, you could still add a piece of plywood mounted on spacers that would keep the tv mount out away from the siding.
