I have a 300 wsm Remington 700. I had academy put the scope on for me and it had a cant to it. I had to pull it and eyeball it last season so I could use it. About how much are we talking (or what would be my best bet) to have the scope pulled, re-aligned, tightened down with lock-tight, and bore-sight? Thanks for the advice.

I'm sure academy doesn't use a level or a plumbob. Bring it to Bowie's and ask for me and I'll do it no charge. We always bring the gun out to check eye relief and reticle satisfaction, because even if it's perfectly level, 90% of people cant the rifle when they hold it and it looks crooked. I'll make sure you like the way it's set before anchoring it down.

What rings are you using? If the ring screws are long, I wouldn't loctite them. Makes them very hard to get out if there's ever an issue. Usually have to apply some heat to the rings to break the loctite on the bigger screws. I'll do whatever you want, obviously, but just wanted to throw that out.

Sounds awesome. Thank you. I believe I bought some Leopold rings but I can't remember at the moment. They are two piece rings though.

Instead of Leupold rings, buy a DNZ game reaper. They are more than decent and not overly pricey.

I have trouble wrapping my head around this stuff, but wouldn't you still have point of impact variations with distance in the horizontal axis?

Huh? It's just people's preference and natural holds.

If you cant your rifle, then the sights and bore are not on the same vertical plane. Which introduces errors to the left or right.

I don't see how making it look level when you're canted would fix that.

We're talking adjustments that are so infinitesimal that they are negligible for 99% of people. Yes, adjustments while canted can throw you off, but does the average hunter worry about that or a crooked reticle more? I do what makes them happy. I use a horizontal level and and plumbob for every mount I do, but people still say it's crooked and adjust it a touch to the right or left to their liking. Not much I can do about it

Like I said, most people don't have the skillset that would make those errors a factor

Man I have hell getting my scopes level. Look good until I put the final torque and then look closer to an x.

Carson, you have any opinions on burris zee rings? I've already mounted and sighted in, just want to know your take on it.

use em all the time for all sorts of calibers. usually put em on any gun that comes with a stock weaver base. well-built, well-priced rings that don't add too much weight and still look sleek . i get the occasional ring that is not cut to spec so I have to modify it to fit on a standard weaver base, but not a big deal at all. I'll probably use them for my rimfire build coming up. nothing wrong with them. don't let the $30 price tag fool you into thinking they're lacking in quality
