Mounting an optic (Red Dot) on a Pistol

Anyone ever done this that could give me some guidance?
Beretta Neos. Comes with a nice rail I can mount some type of optic. In fact the whole impetus that drove me to buy the pistol was because I wanted something to mount a red dot for casual plinking. I'm wanting to put a small red dot on it but I've never shot a pistol with any type of optic. Actually I take that back I've shot a 44Mag with a 2x scope on it when I was 17 but I'm pretty sure I had my eyes closed and was saying a prayer when I pulled the trigger so I don't remember much from that lone encounter.
Most pistols I've seen with a sight on them use a reflex style sight. I was hoping to get something budget minded and I've never seen a good budget reflex sight. Maybe there is one I don't know about? Not wanting to drop $300 on a sight for this cheap pistol.
How well do the micro dots like a TRS25 or Primary Arms micro dot work? $100-170 is more like what I want to spend. Does a small objective tubed red dot get in the way of your sight picture when shooting with the sight held out at arms length? With the red dots designed for a rifle is there issue with parallax at pistol shooting distances? Say less than 25 yards?

Go primary arms advanced micro or Holosun or Sig Romeo. The Romeo 5 is on sale for $139 right now on sportsmans outdoor superstore right now. I think they usually go for $200. All of these sights are made at the same factory I think but the Sig comes with the awesome warranty.

Both are decent budget options.

A small objective makes practice necessary to get used to chasing a dot. The Trijicon RMR on my M&P has a very small objective and I usually have to tell shooters to "line up the iron sights if you lose the dot" because it happens often. If you don't have the ability to cowitness, it will take you a bit of time to get used to making the dot appear, regardless of an open reflex sight or a tubular red dot.

No need to worry about parallax at handgun distances. And FWIW I can ring steel at 100 yards with my M&P with a 25 yard zero.

Interested as well. I have an old MarkII I'd like to put something on. It is a tapered barrel. So I would need something without a rail attachment. Any recommendations?

my custom Ruger slab side with Optima red dot sight
I had this pistol built in the mid 90's ... IIRC, pic is so old it was with a Sony Mavica floppy disc camera ... state of the art back in the day
you can barely see the red dot but get an idea of the visible sight picture

Is there a reason to mount the sight biased forward instead of towards the rear? I was thinking of placing it more centered above my hand to not add any weight handing off the front.

Nothing funnier than seeing someone with a T1 atop a pistol.

I took a red dot of my old man's crossbow and threw it on my Neos to test shooting with a red dot. I didn't bother adjusting the point of impact I just threw it on stuck the dot on the bull and tried to shoot as good of a group as I could. At 10 yards my group was better than with irons at 7. Not having to line up the front and rear sights make shooting much quicker too. I just have to focus on the target and focus on a good pull of the trigger instead of the target, sights, and trigger pull all at once.

Pretty solid work there.
Man that grip angle makes my wrist hurt just from looking at it.
