I need to mount a transducer to my boat. It's an 18' Xpress if that makes any difference. How hard is it to mount and run the wires to an existing Lowrance? Should I just suck it up and pay someone? Please advise?

Is it a through-hull or transom mount?

It's pretty easy to be honest. It's just never a good feeling drilling holes in a boat.

Transom mount, just map out where you are going to conceal the wire. This will take some fishing im sure. Once, you've ran everything, drill a few holes where you want the transducer. There should be instructions that tell you how large to drill the hole. Once installed, i like to epoxy over the screws to make sure no leaks.

If it's a Thru hull, no idea there.

I don't think you can have a through hull on an aluminum boat.

...unless you get an aluma ducer. Am I wrong there?

That stern saver mount is great if you dont want to punch holes in the transom.

99.9% it is going to be transom mount and not shooting through the hull. You can use alumaducer for thru hull but you will not get a temp reading.

Just read up on spacing the transducer far away enough from the prop so you dont get any turbulence and the vertical position so the transducer is not throwing a rooster tail.

does your xpress have the "canal" running down the inside top rail of the boat on the left side? that's where I ran the wires on my humminbird. xpress makes a black plastic filler that covers the "canal" to hide wiring. if I knew how to post pics, I'd show mine.

as far as the transducer, just follow directions included.

That's the elite 7 hdi transducer mounted on my hull used silicone and the old screws to seal holes where stock transducer was mounted. Works great and reads depth even at 40 mph. Just make sure you seal it using Marine grade epoxy or silicone.
