I don't fish down HWY 1 too often but rumors have been going around for a while about the parish stopping roadside parking. I know this has nothing to do with the parish and this is entirely Entergy's doing but it's another small chip taken out of public access. These signs are at the base of all the limestone pads on the side of the road effectively shutting out bank fisherman and people who launch paddle craft from the road side.

I think that will depend on who you ask. Right now the signs are only on the transmission line poles so I can only assume the limestone pads are posted but you never know. I spent a lot of money beating a criminal trespassing charge and the one thing I learned was the property owners have one idea about what's private, the state has their own idea, and judge has his. None of which are the same.

In my experience on the environmental permitting side, the state wants to claim they own everything, unless it relates to liability, then they claim nothing.

In 2007 I was in canal between catfish lake and the WMA. A guy in a crab boat politely told me I needed to leave, we talked for a few minutes about what canals were private and which ones were public. He said there were no public waterways between catfish lake and bully camp, the only way was to go around and go up grand bayou. I didn't think much of it and put my motor down and ran up the bayou to bully camp. I guess he wanted me to turn around so he called the sheriffs department. I was issued a criminal trespassing summons at the boat ramp.

I hired an attorney thinking there was no way they would prosecute but I was wrong. We ended up going to court.

Basically it broke down like this; The land owner claimed to own to the middle of bayou. The state showed the bayou as navigable. The judge's idea was somewhere in the middle.

Sadly it's not a very exciting story.

hey retard, those pads were built and maintained by a private company..... Therefore it is Private Property.

If you has land next to some waterway and people were parking on your land to launch boats you would be coming in here raising hell about people parking on your land.

Are you fricking kidding me? it is private property

Maybe if bank fisherman like yourself picked up after yourself and policed other bank fisherman to pick up after yourself, the parish and private landowners would be more lenient on where they let people like you park.

On another note, the cops down there shouldnt be able to use them as places to sit to radar. Thats bullshite as well, if im trespassing the cops are as well without a warrant.

good for you and i agree.

which is why private landowners have no remorse anymore.

Not sure, your guess is as good as mine. The GIS maps will show you what is state claimed but I think the reality of it all is nobody knows for certain.
