Current lower coast leader, 10lbs 14ozs. They would probably have been real close to the same weight but the guy today wasn't entered. Tale of two totally different body types, this fish was 35" and the other 29" but about the same weight, the 35" would have a giant 13lb+ fish back in Feb or March.

I lived in San Antonio in 2005 and 2006 and was able to fish Baffin Bay quite a few times. I was bewildered at the size of the trout that came from those waters.

man, that is a hell of a trout!...larger than any that I will ever likely see in person.

I do have to point out the camera perspective in the pictures, though. look at the trout Vs. the body of the guy in the green shirt. the fish makes the guy look small in the first and last pictures...yet when you see the guy holding the fish himself in the middle picture, the trout looks entirely different.

that is how much you can manipulate how large a fish looks in a picture by holding it closer to the camera....

Holy crap, first guy wasnt in the tournament?

I bet he regrets that decision.

Could have had a brand new boat.

Someone had shared the guide services post on Facebook and they claim it was gut hooked and wasn't going to make it.

Being a southeast Louisiana speck fisherman, I just can't wrap my mind around those dimensions... 35" speck is just mythical in these parts.

that's because the Louisiana limits are practically "if you can hook it, you can keep it". Also, south of Galveston, the daily limit on trout is 5.

I'd cum in my pants right there on the boat. Then I'd quit speck fishing.

So you think the Spec population in LA is too small to have big fish?

I think the environment is just more conducive to larger fish in Baffin than sela, similar to how sela probably produces more trout per acre.

Everyone holds fish like this.

I think it helps to balance out how big the fish look just before you land them. The damn things shrink when you bring em out of the water.

More likely an age class issue.
