Any good? Pros/cons? Lowrance Ghost or the Garmin? I’ve been MotorGuide for a lifetime but my old war dog is tired and I’m tired of waiting for the Tour Pro to be available

Pro: It does what it is supposed to do. I use mine all the time in crappie fishing where I need to lock down over brush.
Con: Sumbitch has motor brushes and combined with the steering motor, can throw out a lot of interference which messes up my Mega 360 and down imaging.

I saw someone post a Tour Pro on one of the bass boat boards.
I like that the Ghost and Garmin can be 24v or 36v, I wish MK did that but they don't. I bought a 36v Riptide Terrova mainly because I wanted the saltwater rated components. I don't know why the others don't make em like that.

I have an ultrex and love it. Won’t have a boat without one from now on.
I haven’t used a garmin, motor guide or lowrance so I can’t make that comparison but I like the ultrex

I’m gonna call Motorguide tomorrow and they either shite or get off the pot, find me a tm or lose a customer forever. I like the idea of a true cable steer plus the MGs have never let me down but I’m ready for spotlock

I fished with a guy with the ghost. Very quiet! Has a positioned in the foot control so it feels like a cable steer. Pretty legit when linked to a lowrance.

Had a guy who bought a Motorguide Xi5, his big issue was that the trolliing motor always went back to 12 o'clock when he got off the foot pedal. Had me go with a terrova instead and I would rebuy that trolling motor again tomorrow if I need one.

Yeah. Guy I work with has a Ghost and I got on the pedal for about an hour. Worked good, sounded good but hard to get used to a pedal that feels like mush. The Ultrex I ran felt worse than mush but again I’m just not used to that. I’m not really sure about the MG tour pro pedal tension, haven’t had a chance to use one yet

XI5s, Terrovas aren’t in the conversation. I need a TM that’s a tough as nails 4x4 version. I’m in the stumps/knees or grinding pads/grass/mud more than I’m not. I’m casting and driving so foot position relation to direction I gotta have. I’m being picky out of necessity

Post this in the Hummingbird section of BBCboards. There’s a lot of knowledge in that area and can help with your setup.
I was reading a thread on this exact topic the other day and saw some images of the interference. He was able to get the problem to basically go away.

I had an XI5 and hated it. I sold it and put an ultrex. I loved the ultrex.

Oh lord, I've worked with a Humminbird guy on the Texas Fishing Forum. And I've done a bunch of things to remedy this problem. That included multiple looping of transducer wires through 77 ferrite toroid rings. I got rid of all RFI on the down imaging and on the Mega 360 except when the motor is steered by me or on spot lock. It was pretty damn frustrating and a caution to anyone looking at an Ultrex. I did a self install on the Helix so an expert may have had better results.

I’m surprised a HB tech couldn’t figure it out.
I’ve personally fished with 360 on a Helix G3N and ultrex. No problems whatsoever. There’s also a lot of YouTube channels I follow with that setup and it seems to work fine.
Usually, filter settings on the head unit can alleviate a lot of noise if the filter can find the bad frequency causing the issue.
From there, your attempts to mitigate the actual signal output can work as well.
Finally, the physical install itself can be moved around and help interference issues. These things are frustrating when they don’t work as advertised. But pretty sweet when they do.

Wouldn't own one, fish a ton of heavy cover, shallow heavy vegetation, buddy tore up two in three months, maybe if I fished large Deepwater reservoirs offshore, other than that no use for one bass fishing.

This is an Ultrex post but I'm very happy with the Humminbird Helix and Mega 360. The things I can see on that system! My only regret is I pulled the trigger without looking into the Garmin Live Scan. I'm going to get a Garmin or the Lowrance equivalent one of these days. And soon enough Humminbird will develop the same technology.

HB Mega live is scheduled for March 2021 release.
Jury’s still out on the HB implementation. Lowrance is almost certainly licensed Garmin livescope technology.
There’s rumors HB may be a European sonar company implementation where the processor is in the transducer and no ‘black box’ necessary.

quote:the Ultrex? It’s a concern because my TMs take a beating. I’ll probably ditch the spotlock notion and get another battle axe. Just keep doing what I’ve always done and kick a buoy if I need the mark spot and stay on the pedal

quote:I've been watching this for a while. Those with real experience with all generally say: Ghost>Ultrex>Force. There seem to be a lot of very happy Ultrex owners, but the forums are also full of reported problems. I talked to a pro recently because of his early delivery of the new Motorguide, and he said there were LOTS of Force issues.

So what did the guy say about the Tour Pro, problems?
I’ve made up my mind about the other 3, they just don’t look like they could handle to pressure I’ll put on them. At least the MG seems to have the meat to go with the potatoes
Who’d you order from? I don’t think mine will make it another month. Brushes or a bearing in the motor is making hella noise. I beat the piss out of it on an ion the dark run back up Verret with my strap loose. Stupid, stupid
