I often shop at stores that have the generic 'metal detectors' at the entrance and exit. Are these detectors made to go off if someone is carrying a weapon? I had one incident where I walked in the store and the alarm went off... Luckily, it had apparently been acting up and they told me to just continue shopping. I'm sure my face went completely red when everyone turned and looked at me. What's the standard procedure if they want to know why my purse is causing an uproar? Has this ever happened to you or someone you know?

Those aren't metal detectors. Think how much metal people carry around, including keys. They are made to pick up security tags places on high value merchandise...

Your fine. I carry at a million places that have those. And if someone asks while your walking into the store tell them to mind their business

Thanks, that was what I figured but wanted to be sure.

No, they're designed so guns and knives won't set them off. They only pick up on prosthetic devices, nuclear warheads, car keys, and metal plates in customers' heads.

Interesting... You would think it would be the other way around.
