Yeah I think young mangroves are very dark

Did the OP say he ate it? If it's a mangrove it would be tasty. A pinfish... I'm not so sure. Also, a totally different bone structure between the two.

Not a mangrove

It's a species of pin fish and they will eat. They are bony though.

I used to catch mangroves by the bridge over the mrgo on the rocks on the reg though

Re: the post with the two pictures above, look at the structure of the gill plates, they're different. I don't know if they change as the fish matures, but they don't look the same to me.
