LR308 not cycling -- Maybe stupid questions, but ...

Brand new build:
16" barrel, mid-length gas
SLR Sentry adjustable gas block
Carbine length tube w/ Slash heavy buffer (5.5 oz) & spring
Shooting cheap target ammo (American Eagle & Perfecta)
Started with the gas block at ~50%. Wouldn't cycle. Kept opening the gas block, I think eventually to 100%. No change. BCG only moves back an inch or so.
The gas block adjustments weren't nearly as smooth or uniform as I assumed they would be (I never even tried it at the house). This made me wonder if my block has an issue. Anyway, still would've thought it would cycle or at least change behavior as I changed the setting, unless I had it closed, or nearly so.
Does this parts combination sound like a problem? Any reason the SLR block shouldn't be used on a 308? I could go with a lighter buffer and/or spring, but it seems like a gas issue to me. I installed the block as precisely as I could, including checking the location by blowing air into the barrel and listening to the pitch of the air through the tube. Anyway, going to recheck that, and maybe dissect the gas block? Any other thoughts?
On a related note, does anyone recommend loctite-ing the gas block onto the barrel? I've heard of this but didn't really want to do it.

This was with my 300 black build that I was having some cycling issues with. Granted it doesn't sound nearly as severe as what you struggled with but I ended up having to drill out the gas port hole in the bottom of my barrel.
End result 100% cycling with all super and sub suppressed and unsuppressed combos

I'd try a different buffer and spring 1st before I did much else.
May want to check and make sure the gas block and hike in the barrel are lining up correctly.

Yea, I was just going to go back to square one and double-check everything to begin with. Maybe I'll find something I screwed up.
