I bought a Stoeger 3020 (20 gauge) semi auto the other day. I've since read that they have a hard time cycling low brass loads. Does anyone on the board have one of these (or any of the other brands with inertia actions)? If so what has been your experience with low brass loads?

Brass length means nothing. Google is your friend.

Congrats on the new gun. Clean it, shoot a couple boxes of some heavy stuff through it, clean it again and you'll be just fine with lighter shells. I have the 12ga version and it's been an awesome gun.

By low brass I meant the light loads. Google is fine but honestly I prefer to get as much input as I can from this board and the GON Forum. I've been around both boards long enough to know that there is a lot of knowledgeable people on them.

If you bought for skeet you can prob get a softer recoil spring. If you bought for doves n ducks do what feller above said and go cycle a couple boxes of magnum loads and the spring should be fine for anything 1 1/8 or above. The older Benellis were the same way.

1. The only time inertia guns will have issues with light loads is if you're dealing with a 12ga, 3.5" inertia gun (Benelli SBEII, Stoeger 3500, Franchi Intensity, Browning A5). Sometimes you'll be able to run 1oz loads with these just fine, but most struggle without extensive break-in. My SBEII cycled 1oz loads just fine from Day 1, for example. The 12ga 3" guns and 20ga guns will run whatever you want. Anything else you hear is a myth or wrong

2. Stoegers (and all Turkish guns, generally) come caked with cosmoline. Disassemble the gun and clean all that shite off to prevent early issues.

Your 3020 will run fine

To shoot low brass shells in it, remove the rubber butt plate and take off the counter weight by unscrewing it off the all thread located in the stock. Inertia driven needs that weight to absorb the recoil of high brass ammo but it doesn't allow low brass to finish its cycle before the weight has robbed the power away from the action

I would agree with cleaning. Mine shoots them just fine. I did swap out that solid rubber pad for a limb saver. It kicked worse than any of my 12ga's.
