Pretty much gave up tournament fishing. People are big arse crybabies.
My buddy has a guided trip the Friday, I will head up Friday and we will fish the weekend.
White Perch should be on and of course Bass.

One of the best techniques for big fish if you can truely SLOW roll it.

She'll bite again, hope your there when she does.

Sorry to hear this! I had something similar happen to me in a tournament. Was fishing a lake known for 3-4 lbers and flipped a jig in some reeds. Line comes running out and I set the hook... she comes up and she's easily 10+. I'm fishing solo because my partner couldn't get off work that day and I go to grab the net and it's friggin hung on a crankbait. so I reach down to grab the line and lip her. when I grab the line she shakes her head and the jig pops out. I just laid down on the deck trying not to puke. I weighed 16 lbs that day with a 13" fish that I never could cull. 21 lbs won the tourney and that fish would have given me roughly 25lbs. I've had several nighmares about her since then.

I love pulling a spinnerbait over a log. It's got around a 100% hit ratio

There are some you never forget.....

When I was about 15, a cousin and I were throwing orange bellied rogues on Black Lake. We'd caught about 9 jackfish on one bank in about an hour.

Flipped a rogue in a hole, big fish hit, assumed it was another jack, and didn't set the hook.

Fish was in shallow water, ran to deep water, and we both saw her sideways when she rolled out.

Truth be known, the fish was around 6 or 7 pounds. That's been 30 years ago, and I can still see the exact picture of her rolling out into the deeper water in my head.

I hate to hear about missed opportunities. I've had my share of WTF moments on the water. This one time on Wallace I was twitching a tiny torpedo around some submerged logs when I got a strike. This lunker dove in and around all kinds of weeds and crap. I fought this thing like I was landing a world record Marlin. I'd pull up and reel down to the water. Finally get the bass to to surface of the water and its just a ball of weeds and a mouth that looked like it belonged to a 5gal bucket. My dad reaches down to lip it, to this day I wonder what would have happened had he used the net, and the hooks pull out of the back of the bait. In true ob fashion I took the bait back to academy showed them the bait, told them my sob story and got a new bait. It didnt make up for losing the fish though.
