FWIW, here's a solid price on a Dan Wesson Heritage. Heritage is their base model 1911 but is still a very fine gun and a better pistol than the large manufacturers typically produce, IMO. No MIM parts.

Only thing I dislike about Smith and Sig 1911s is the external extractor. Just doesn't look right on a 1911 (nothing to do with functionality).

Damn why did you have to point that out

Jk I seen it and agree...but the rest of the gun looks so good I overlook it.

I don't know where you are located, but I saw this on the Sportsman while scrolling through the classifieds.

Quality has gone down significantly. They also use a bunch of MIM parts which is unacceptable in a gun that costs as much as they do. As Carson says, they have brilliant marketing but they don't produce the same guns as they did 10-20 years ago.

They've gotten a bit better and certain models are great buys. The new TLEII EM models are gorgeous and a great value at 1000-1100

Hey tx_cajun, if you are still in the market for a Dan Wesson. Hit me up at anhvous@gmail.com, I have a few that I would like to part ways with.

I have a ruger sr1911 and love it. But if I had that budget I'd get something nicer like mentioned.

+1

I reviewed my cousin's SR1911 commander and it's an excellent shooter. But with a higher budget I'd start to look at some of the almost-custom guns. The ones mentioned are pretty solid although Dan Wesson seems to get mentioned the most.

Would love a long slide 10mm. Can those be had in the $1.5k range?

I know you can get the upper from Fusion for about $700 if you have the frame already.
