Thinking on getting the colt gold cup trophy. What would be a good leather OWB holster for this gun? Also, is this a good first 1911. Want something that I can pass down when I'm gone and would be appreciated.

Colt is good to go (at least I think, idk if anything happened to quality after bankruptcy but the Colt 1911s are high quality). I think they cost around $1100 ($2500 if you go to Jim's). If you want to spend a bit more, I would say go with Dan Wesson. I don't know much at all about leather holsters so I can't comment on that.

Appreciate the response. I'm trying to stay around the 1100-1500 range.

For $1500 I would go Dan Wesson Valor and not look back.

Does it have to be a .45?

If not, Delta Elite 10mm.

If I'm spending $1500, Im looking at Dan Wesson Specialist or Valor, or a Springfield TRP. Colt's are very nice in that lower price range you have.

I have a Ron Grizzle OWB leather holster that I really like. Excellent quality and craftsmanship. Takes several weeks to get it though.

If you are going to spend over 1k, don't buy one made in Brazil. Colt's are great. I like Sigs too.

Haven't heard much of them on here but local gun shop got one of these last week. It's a fine shooting gun. IV8888 did a review on it not too long ago on the YouTube

Be VERY careful about Springfield. Their quality has taken a serious nose dive in the last two years. I have no idea if there was a corporate issue, manufacturing change or what but I have heard this from multiple sources. Damn good looking pistols though.

Heard good things about the Ruger but if your budget is 1k plus, i would buy one w/ a forged frame not cast like the Ruger. Its a hell of a good looking 1911 for the price though, and quality cast is generally pretty good.

In the $1,500 range, Dan Wesson Valor, Specialist, Silverback or V-Bob.

I shot it in 9mm config. Felt damn solid.

I agree though, if budget is $1k plus, there are tried and true models out there

I have a ruger sr1911 and love it. But if I had that budget I'd get something nicer like mentioned. Not sure how good it is compared to the others but I like the way the smith and Wesson performance center 1911s look and are in that range.
