I found a 1979 aluminum mod v duck boat. Should I be even consider a hull that is almost 40 years old?

no reason not to consider it...just be sure the rivets are good and that the transom is not rotten...

If on a trailer, look for signs of pitting/corrosion if it was loaded on treated bunks.
Also an aluminum boat that old most likely has wood in the transom so make sure it's not rotten out.

If you can before buying it, fill it up about mid way with water. Check for leaks. I have one made in 1958 and it is thick, but it does leak a little.. I use it only as a pond boat.

All depends on the price and condition. Age isn't the issue per se, more that aluminum corrodes if not taken care of. That hull could be in better shape than a five year old one, just depends on if someone let it sit in salt, used dissimilar metals on it, etc.
Shape of the trailer is what would make the decision for me, the hull is a piece of cake to work on. Trailer parts are a pain in the arse to find and nothing ever fits right even if it's supposed to.

I got one a lot newer I could sell you for cheap. I wanna say it's a 98 or 99. 15 foot, I think 36 inch wide. Don't know how big you're looking for.
