I called Jim's firearms, and they want $85 to put a recoil pad on an old Marlen 30-30 rifle that I have. Got this gun from my dad which he bought years ago. Probably paid $150 for the rifle, so hoping not to spend half of that just add a recoil pad.

Who are some good gunsmiths in the Baton Rouge area that might do the job for a more reasonable price? Thanks in advance!

Pachmeyer slip on recoil pad - $25 at Cabela's.
Put it on, and go hunt.

Does that $85 include the boy friend or is that sold separately?

eduardo chahin can do it, and does excellent work

HOWEVER he is always busy
if you drop your rifle off and a month later he's still not gotten to it, do not come looking for me...

Good question. 15 year old daughter (no pics) that weighs 115. Don't want to scare her away from shooting.

In that case maybe give Bobby Martinez a shout at the accuracy shop. Good guy if he can't do it he can tell you someone who can.

That sounds like an awesome deal for you. In fact, tip another $15 for saving you the agony and frustration of using a screwdriver and 5 minutes of your own time.

Do you already have the recoil pad -- and is it already been shaped to fit the stock ??

$85 isn't all that high if it includes the pad, grinding to fit and installing it.

Dale Givens (275-7500) will do an excellent job, and probably charge less (although I don't know his rates). He made a few Kick-Eez pads (installed one and ground two spares) to fit the 20 gauge Beretta that I keep handy for the young'uns -- he did great work for a very reasonable price.

I could certainly do it myself if I got a recoil pad that was a perfect fit, but what are the chances of that? How does the OB suggest grinding it down to make it look good. I have a drill and grinding bit??

I will give Dale Givens a call too. Thanks!

I would recommend just using a jacket or something to lessen the recoil while at the range. She won't notice recoil at all while shooting at a deer.

A 115 pound girl is plenty big enough to shoot a 30-30.

Save your money and buy more boolets.

In that case, why dont you get her some of the managed recoil ammo. That will get her started and then can move up to the regular stuff once she is comfortable. Here is an example: Midway 3030 ammo

I don't know if I would want managed recoil rounds in a 30-30. You're range is already pretty limited, shooting slower bullets is just going to decrease it even more. And it's not like there is a ton of recoil to begin with.
