I am very new to fresh water and was going to try and launch at either Gaudets or Bayside soon and try areas I have read about like Grosbek, Alcide, Grand Bayou, and Crackerhead, along with the north end of the lake in general. I have a small boat and don't want to travel too far bc of it. In fact if it's too rough I may not make the lake at all so we will see, but that's why I wanted to launch at one of those spots so I have back up plans just in case.

Would ideally like to target Bass and Sac a Lait, but I'll be happy with any fish honestly bc I don't really know what to expect.

Any info and do's or don'ts are appreciated. Not looking for your honeyhole. Just trying to go for more than a boatride.

I fish a lot of salt water but figured there is too much freshwater around me (in BR) for me not to even try it. The two spots I saw that I thought I would start out with is there, and Jack Miller's Landing in Plaquemine. If I'm off base in those being decent spots to try I am open to other places to explore that are a similar distance from BR

TIA

May want to add Bayou Corne to the list as well. I didn't fish there but the launch was packed last weekend which means they may be biting.

I've cut across that lake in a 14 ft aluminum boat with a 15 enough times to say it's gotta be a hurricane to stop you from doing so.

The lady at gaudets is going to remind you to put your plug in 17 times.

Coming out the bay, hang that left when you get past the piling, that'll take you to grand bayou and bayou long. Never really tore up the bass in there but I have hit sac a lait and chinquapin a bunch. If you can find some pretty water in the crackhead you might find some sacalait. If it's pretty and you want to hit the grassy lake side, bass have been on and heard of people catching some sacs too.

Yeh I would put in at bayou corne if you want to stay on the north side of the lake. Quicker access to more dead end canals

Coming from Gaudets/Bayside, it is more of a ride to the canals

I think there is still one at the bridge. No use trying to fish on the west side of the lake anymore since the fricking Landrys have gated up all the canals

It is the launch on Highway 70 as the highway crosses over Bayou Corne

It is called Sportsmans Landing I believe

Indeed it is. Maybe a mile past the shell station. If you cross the bridge, you went too far.

I think the sign / official name is Sportsman's Landing. It's on Hwy 70, about 6-7 miles north of Pierre Part.

I think they charge $5 to launch. Put money in numbered envelope & put matching stub on dash of your vehicle. Two concrete ramps - excellent launch facility.
