Finding a lease on the sportsman or bayou bucks is easy... Finding one that lets you hunt the entire property, in an area you want to be in shooting the size and type of deer you want on your "budget" is a job.

Should have clarified, those are the years when they will reach there prime and max antler potential. Like I said, until 3.5 yrs of age the majority of nutrients ate going to bone growth, the difference between a decent deer and damn good deer is going to come in that 4.5 year and up. A nice 120" 8 point was killed on a buddies place a couple weeks ago when I was up there, weighed out at 230lb and was run down bc of the rut. We pulled the jaw bone and he was a 3 yrd old 4 at the oldest. Chances are another year and he would have been walking around as a solid high 140-150", they have the deer on the walls up there to prove it.
Also not saying that those are wrong but there have been studies that prove otherwise.

Think they own parts of property that have flooded bottoms for duck hunting?
Seems like that would be a good lead.

What you said was the biggest jump in antler growth was at 4.5 which is technically wrong, even though that may not have been what you meant. Between 2.5-3.5 they gain 30-50% of their antler growth, putting them around 75% of thier potential. There isn't as big of a jump in growth after 3.5
As far as a 230lb rutted down deer being 3.5..... Where is he hunting that seems very big for anywhere close to here.

Most of the land owned by timber companies are primarily pine forest with creek bottoms that are hardwoods. If shooting mostly local wood ducks are your thing than you may be in luck for a short period of time, but as far as getting migratory birds coming from the flyways.... I wouldn't bank on hitting the mallards/greys jackpot from a timber company lease.

Prime AG land in Concordia parish, the does there get 160. The buck was right over 225 with barely any fat on him. When we made a meat run to the processor they said all the bucks that have been coming in were wore down including the monster 8 point with close to 8" main beams, ill post a pick tomorrow though they dont do it justice.
