Probably leaning towards a Stihl. What are my options and what should I expect to spend? Any sales going on right now?

Mid-range saws cover a lot of ground, how much bar do you want to run? I have a MS391 and a MS310 before that. Good saws in that range are $300 - $450+ in the 55cc-65cc class.

I got a MS391 because it was basically the same size and weight as the 311 but with the capacity to run up to a 25" bar which I have. I know my old 310 ran a 20" bar with a full house chain with no issues even in old fallen oaks. Another really interesting saw I was looking at is the 64cc Makita which I think is a rebadged Dolmar 6400 but can be found for well under $500. Pretty much a pro-grade saw so I would think it would last quite a few serious seasons.

Its a shame Husqvarna has went down hill, I loved my old rancher.

Sthl usually has a fall special. This year it's the MS250 for $299.

Looks like a powerful saw. The reviews are mixed. So many folks have that farm boss. They always seem to be a good strong saw. I'm leaning toward that.

It's a great saw for a serious homeowner, I have an older 025 but it's not enough to comfortably run a 20" bar. I have a 16" bar on mine and it's a sweet saw for smaller trees, limbing, and post-storm clean-up.

Give the Jonsered's at Tractor Supply a look. Can't speak to whether any sales are in progress. But, for medium duty, any decent-brand chainsaw will do fine if you treat it right.

I've got some serious hours running a dolmar. I was always impressed with that saw.

I have a MS391 and I feel like it's the ideal mid-duty saw. Just right for a small firewood operation.

I think the 60cc - 65cc range is a sweet spot for a chainsaw that isn't doing professional logging or running a sawmill. You can go from 16" to 28" bars to handle pretty much anything reasonable.

Since when? I just bought a Rancher 450 and it has worked flawlessly. I've used it to cut down everything from an old chicken coop to a very large white oak I didn't think the bar was long enough to cut. All I've done is sharpen the teeth. OP, look to Husqvarna. Lowe's is having a sale right now. I think you can get up to 10% off.

Whatever you do don't buy this saw, I had nothing but problems with it from day 1, ended up returning it and getting my money back. So some reason the carb kept getting dirt in it. And that start assist sucks.

I've run a few big high end huskies and liked them a lot, but they were about 10 years old and I seem to remember about $1000. As nice as they were, they don't handle having a 16" oak tree laid across them very well

My buddy has a mid grade husky and I don't think it's half the saw my MS391 is. Take it fwiw. He's constantly had problems with it.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like OP should get a dolmar IF he can find someone local to service it. I was just looking them up and you get a whole lot of machine for your money. They're very reasonably priced and the one I used to use was absolutely a top quality piece of equipment.

I spent close to 3 hours yesterday running my 391 and it's leaking bar oil like hell. I didn't notice that it had started leaking until I was out. Bar and chain both shot

I don't like how Husqvarna saws make power at all. They have to be tached out to cut. Then, they break and you're stuck waiting a week for parts. Usable life on them is not long, and that's from using pro saws in a pro capacity
