Looking for a good hip case for my new pistol

Just bought a springfield XDM 9 and I need a good comfortable case for it. I've heard the hard plastic holders can scratch up the gun. Any suggestions? will be wearing it mostly when I go to the range and maybe after I get my CCL.

I think you could find an Uncle Mike's holster at an Academy or another large sporting good store.

Do you mean Holster?
So if you want to wear it after you get your CCL then you will want the holster to be inside the waste band.
If you want just a general open carry holster I like the Don Hume Leather Holsters...
For CCL I really like crossbreed holsters. they are pricey but worth the money escpecially if you plan on carring a full size XDm

bought one and brought it back..didn't fit good at all.
I like the hard plastic holsters with the button release but like i said i heard they tend to scratch up the gun so I am a bit weary about it. Anyone have any experience with them?

Here's a trick - bring the pistol in the store and open the package and test it out. Odds are that you picked up the wrong size holster... There's also a size chart on the back of the Uncle Mike's package. Like TT said above if you do begin to conceal carry you'll have to decide how you want to carry it.

Sounds like you're looking for a "retention" type holster. Look at Serpa and Blackhawk. A well fitting holster shouldn't cause any undue wear on the gun. Of course, ANY holster will cause some of the gun's finish to wear off.

If you carry a gun a lot, irrespective of whether you pick kydex or leather, you're gonna experience some holster-wear. And the flimsy nylon pieces of crap (Uncle Mike, Remora, et al) are hardly suited for CCW
But there are two pieces of good news.
1. You have an XD. So who cares if you scratch it ?
2. On a slightly more seious note, a CCW pistol is a tool. Get used to it. If it gets scratched, that's like scratching a crescent wrench. Big deal.
3. If you have a gun that is so precious (hardly sounds like an XD) or so beautiful (for sure ain't an XD) that you fear scratching it, you've picked the wrong carry weapon.
Leave the Kimber, Springfield Custom or Nighthawk in the safe, and carry a Glock. Problem solved.

Agreed, but at present the OP doesn't have his CCP. I referred him to an Uncle Mike's as an inexpensive option until he 1. Gets a CCP and 2. Decides how he'll carry it once he's got his CCP. I stand by my recommendation of a $20 Uncle Mike's until he figures things out.

Even the 3.5" XdM is going to be tough to conceal in the summer. If you got the full size it's going to be real tough.
If you are looking for a retention holster for the range and around the house/woods, then I recommend Blackhawk.

Actually I thought you were suggesting a $20-25 Uncle Mike in kydex, which isn't a bad holster for the money.
Not sure what he'd do with the nylon POS (sorry, couldn't help it

Blackhawk with paddle can be had for $35ish at cabelas. I carry my glock in it when I'm in the woods and such. No scratches on it from the holster, not that it really matters to me. But I understand you wanting to keep it nice. good luck.

Try bravo concealment. There is about an 8-10 week wait but it's worth it. The fit and finish is great. I have one of the weapon light holsters for my G17. I am about to order one for My G21.
