My current rods are Abu Garcia Vendettas and Veritas for mirrolures, soft plastics, etc and All Star for popping corks. I'm looking at TackleWarehouse to get a Falcon Coastal spinning rod but if I'm spending $170 for a rod, I want to get the right one.

This would be a mirrolure/soft plastic rod that I will likely pair with a Shimano Sahara 3000, 20 lbs braid. It will mostly be used in the surf around Elmer's but I may use it in the marsh for double duty when I get a yak (heck, I may just get another Falcon for that if I like it).

Best options:

Falcon Lowrider Salt Spinning Rod 7' Medium, Taper: Moderate, Line: 10-17 lbs, Lure: 1/4 - 1/2 oz

Falcon Lowrider Salt Spinning Rod 7'6" Light, Taper: Moderate, Line: 8 - 17 lbs, Lure: 3/16 - 1/2 oz

Falcon Lowrider Salt Spinning Rod 7'6" Medium, Taper: Moderate Fast, Line: 10 - 17 lbs, Lure: 1/4 - 1/2 oz

7'6 lowrider, if you're not gonna be putting a lot of action in the bait. 7'0 if so.

Go with coastal hd 7'.....the prices seem out of whack, unless those rods are an upgrade. I bought my 2 coastals a couple years ago, but seem to remember them being in the $70-$100 range.

If you're spending $170 on a falcon add another $20 and get you a Duce. Just got my first and I feel like it's night and day versus my St Croix MOJO Inshore rods.

You can get a nice custom rod for that kind of $$$ I bought myself and my fishing buddy one for Christmas last year. LSU rod in color, 7ft med, action and UT for him, same set up. Got both for $300. Got them from Olivers Custom Rods in Lafayette. We love them, great backbone and very sensitive. I just ordered 2 more for myself, never thought that the difference between the $50 rods @ Academy and custom were worth it, til I got the custom rod. Only way I'll go now.

Why would you spend $170 for a fishing rod? Just curious
