Anyone know somewhere, relatively close to Baton Rouge, that I could shoot 500-750 yards? Does such a range / place exist?

Palo Alto like everyone else said. Goes to 600 yards and unless theyve changed the rules you have to "qualify" to shoot there and have a partner when shooting 600. I am not a member so hopefully one will chime in.

Also, Eymards somewhere around New Orleans. I think this goes to 800 yards and is a public range.

Is that not far enough?

The most I can shoot at my lease is ~300. I've always wanted to try farther. I wish we had a pipeline on the property, that would make this easier.

I haven't done much long range shooting, but any further than 500, and it is like 1/2 luck and 1/2 skill

Buddy of mine started shooting at a 600 yd facility here in the Houston area. They are pretty picky about who they allow to shoot at 600. He had to qualify at 300 first. I think he also had to shim his scope to keep from bottoming out his elevation adjustment. At a range like that, they aren't going to let you judge the holdover. They want you to be able to put the rounds on the target consistently so they know you won't be launching one over the berm. I've seen a lot of shooters that scatter bullets all over the paper at 100yds. So you cut one of those people loose at 600 and they're liable to shoot someone in the next parish. I'm sure the liability is huge for the range owner. Good luck. Sounds like it would be fun to do.

We given some thought to putting one on our property in north Livingston Parish. Could easily get 600-700 yards with a couple of nice spots to shoot from/to. If we wanted to clear some trees we could actually put in over 1,000 on one side of the property, but that's a bit extreme. Anyone know of the regs for operating a range? Insurance requirements?

I would call the NSSF or something and find out info. I have no doubt that if some idiot shoots another person, it would be a legal headache.

Unless you're practicing at that distance a fair amount, it is. I'll take shots at pigs that far, but not deer
