living aboard a boat

So I've been tossing this idea around in my head for a couple months. Right now it's not much more than an idea, but I am considering it. Have any of y'all ever lived on a boat for an extended period of time? Growing up, my folks had a bluewater cruising sailboat (old Irwin 40) that they fixed up, and we spent a lot of time on it, so I'm not totally green.
I've just been thinking it might be cool to get a 45-55' 90s-ish trawler to live aboard for a couple years. I couldn't really afford anything newer but you can find some good deals on older boats with updated electronics and good engine records. Input/experiences?

Do it.
I don't think you need anything that big though.

There's a bunch of people that live on older sportfishers in the Beau Chene marina

I know a guy over there that lives on one. Cool dude but his boat is a piece haha.
There are a couple of pretty sweet old trawlers at Mandeville harbor with people living on them.

Maybe not. I just always remember thinking that 40' was cramped. Granted a trawler is more open than a monohull sailboat but regardless.

Why do you want to do this? What do you do for a living? Do you ever anticipate getting laid ever again?

Houses are boring, square.

I would think that the ladies would be all about shacking up on a boat...
Long term though, they probably would have an issue with it.

I loled reading that.
I just think it would be cool. I could also take multiple day trips to a lot of really cool places. I could bring my skiff out to Chandeleur whenever I wanted and stay for as long as I wanted.
Let's face it. That's my main goal here.

Curiously enough, my girlfriend is all about the idea. I also showed her a picture of a 2009 Fleming though, so that might've had something to do with it.

when we were all single two of my cousins lived in a houseboat at tin Lizzie's in Springfield. Getting laid was not an issue

Me and my ole lady did it awhile back. It was fun.

that was my plan when i graduated from LSU and started working. met ms mack and that idea went away.
i did live on a house boat for a few months when i was in college that my dad and his buddies owned. was a pretty sweet set up: 65' 47 ton river cruiser with bathroom, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, ect. given the opportunity i'd definitely do it again.

Here's a link to a thread from earlier this month about living on a boat.
