Lews Mach 2 Reel

Anybody used one? I'm traditionally a Diawa guy, but these reels look badass. I need a flipping set up and want to put one of these on a 7'6" rod....or should I go 7'10"?

Never used that reel, but flipping is kind of a broad term. I personally wouldn't use anything over 7'3 for anything other than punching or large crankbaits. Even punching that's kind of overkill IMO.

I have the 'pro' version of that reel.
Very good reel, but not worth the $250 it cost.
Lews makes good shite though.

If you are talking about true flipping then the reel is probably the least important part of that equation because you are using so little line. I know guys that take an old ambassador and tighten the drag down with pliers, spool just a few yards of braid and go to work.
Pitching/underhand roll casting requires more in a reel.

Agree. 2 things I look for in a flipping/pitching reel. Strong arse drag. And high IPT.

I'd get the $80 Lews that's in the plastic for flipping. I have 2 or 3 and the drag is awesome. I'd use the Mach 2 for a frog.

It's personal preference, and what vegitation you're in. I'm usually punching pads that can extend 15 feet off the bank, and I feel like I can be a little more accurate with a 7'3. 7'6 and up I would want if I was dropping in pockets a few feet from the boat, but I just don't find myself in that situation much.

They are still on sale online for $125. LINK
My buddy has one and I used it for a little while. It's a really smooth real. I didn't catch anything on it so I can't vouch for the drag or anything. I really like Lew's products in general. Good value for sure, hard to go wrong. Their customer service is awesome if you ever have a problem.

Reel works fine. Rod is the key to this set up and what you are punching. If it's deep grass say 15-20 then the longer rod is better. Be sure the reel seat is a one pc or your reel seems to move a little and IMO is a weak link.
