what about these old foam head snake lures? Any one use them? I used to do well with them on the amite.

Here's a few old ones I have. I've been planning to make a display or shadow box eventually but haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's called Black Shore Minnow.

Yep. Can't let this Heddon "Black Shore Minnow" color/pattern fade into just nothing. I have caught some serious bass on Toledo with this color/pattern Torpedo/Tiny Torpedo/Baby Torpedo early morn before sun really comes out and at dusk (near sunset). Not really at night for me in either case. Of course it would also work at night.

Topwaters used should either display this color/pattern or (when the sun is out) the chrome/black back pattern (IMO). Alternative to chrome/black back pattern with sun out would be any lighter color/pattern (lighter bottom or lighter overall) or perch pattern, IMO.

Sorry to diverge slightly.

Odd bass baits depend on when they are introduced, IMO. In 1971 I bought my 4 year old son a "reptile" kit (plastic reptiles incl. several snakes, several lizards, turtle, etc. Took one plastic lizard and cast this lizard in a Dow RTV red brown mold - straightened and shortened the tail somewhat.

Then, (again - I've bored you guys saying in some of my earlier posts that plastic lizards were not commercially available for sale at the time) I bought vinyl plastic and several bottles of color. Next I poured 3 lizards (one red, one green, one purple) in the RTV mold.

Weekend on Toledo. Texas rigged the lizards. Pretty sure that would qualify for an "odd bass bait" (to the bass). Red and green "lizard" didn't do so well. Purple "lizard" - whoa - caught a 2 pounder. Then a 3 pounder. Lizard was practically unusable, but I caught a 3rd bass. He totally tore it up.

To me that was an odd bass bait. You better know that the next week after I got home I poured (probably) hundreds of purple plastic lizards. Yep, we humans are strange. Even when we use "odd bass baits".

Red winged blackbird bait trips me out, though. Bet it would work early in morn or later near dark...

Nvm, I see you were saying odd or novel for the time.
