I just heard some reports that the landowner has gated off a large portion of Lena Lagoon in Hopedale so public access is no longer allowed in this part of the marsh. Can anyone confirm if this is true because it would signal a gating trend on the East side of the Miss River now.

I bet the kayakers would know. Don't they spend a bunch of time in the hopedale lagoon? Seems like every time I've gone through there they have a little kayak parade trolling for trout.

Do people take offense with this? I mean it is his land the only issue I see is the whole navigable waterways issue but if he is chaining off his ponds I mean I don't see the issue. If you are one of the people who say that it sucks because you hunt that area normaly then your an arse for hunting this guys property.

The whole navigable waterways is like a pretty big deal

The phrase is meaningless without more.

No offense taken, it's his/her prerogative..but as stated, kinda sucks.

Fwiw I don't know of anybody who hunts Lena, too many people fishing in there come fall/winter anyhow.

That's why I said that. I understand the navigable waterways to be an issue but since no one really seems to know what is being chained off in assuming it's more likely that he is just chaining off his ponds which in that case I don't see the issue. Especially id he is having issues with people hunting his ponds.

You're probably right, but you have to consider the long term implications. If everyone gated off their ponds, it would more or less put an end to recreations marsh fishing as we know it.

If Delacroix land decided tomorrow to exercise their property rights, they could put an abrupt end to any and all public recreation out of the village of Delacroix.

It's just a slippery slope and something we should be keeping a close eye on.

True. It's one of the problems without a very good answer. The landowner has issues with people hunting his lease so his quick solution is to chain off his pond. His solution has no downside for him. The only downside is for the people who legally fish his ponds. But if he doesn't chain his ponds now he does have a downside because his ponds that he has the rights to are now being illegally hunted. The only scenario that is a win win is one in which illegal trespassing is enforced and condemned to the point that people won't hunt shite that isn't theirs. But we all know that ain't happenin

Basically what I mean is less blame should be put on him for chaining off his ponds and more on the fricks who hunt his shite. Who caused this problem in the first place.

If that happened, you would see places like hopedale, delacroix, leeville, cocodrie, ect, vanish. It would be impossible to sustain those economies on private landowners and their guests alone.

Delacroix is vanishing without the help of the privatized water issue .
