Can I legally keep my pistol in my glove compartment while traveling from LA to FL? Wasn't sure about the other state laws. TIA

I know Alabama has some restrictions if you do not have a concealed carry license...

If you do not have a carry permit I believe Alabama would be your problem. They have very outdated car carry laws.

But to confirm, reference each state here:

In Alabama, you cannot have a loaded gun in your car without a concealed carry permit. It is a misdemeanor charge. In Florida, you can keep the gun in your car, but it MUST be in a latched holster or a box / case with a latch.

Went to Florida over the summer and had my gun in my truck the whole way...this was obviously stupid and I am very lucky that I did not get stopped

The law is the law but I always keep the gun in the car on those trips.

Unless you get a DWI or some other probable cause they don't have a right to search your vehicle.

In my experience if you are stopped for a simple traffic violation you'll just get your ticket and move along. I have yet to have a cop ask me if I have a gun in the car when getting a ticket. It's usually just license, registration, and insurance.

With that said I did have a friend who got a DWI in TN and lost all of his guns he had in the vehicle with him in the process.

I guess what I am saying is if you keep your nose clean you shouldn't have a problem. My safety is worth the slim chance of a misdemeanor or maybe losing one pistol.
