I am interested in the west side levee area south of Krotz Springs. Recently on I drove south on 105 with becomes the levee rd (aka Par Rd 3-95) there are a few different places to pull off and hike. One spot had a sign for "Oxbow Lake" it was raining so I didn't walk in. it has a gate but looks to be for public use. looking on google maps its looks like a nice lake and seems like a great place to put the yak in.

Any of yall ever been back that way? map link below

Is this different than Indian Bayou?

It's contained entirely within Sherburne WMA from what I understand. One of the only NWRs to be managed by the state like that. Check out the Sherburne WMA map for more information.

Sherburne definitely has some decent spots to put a kayak in, but the area in general gets a ton of pressure from sportsmen of all walks. That's not to say there aren't any hidden or overlooked areas. You just gotta do some looking.

You're talking about Indian bayou. Atchafalaya NWR is in the other side of the river, pilot channel and follows the same rules as sherburne.

That's Indian Bayou, and it's managed by the Corps of Engineers. More information here.

I don't have as much experience on the east side of IB as the west, but briefly scouted around the oxbow area I believe you're referring to and thought the same about the prospect of fishing and paddling it. It's fairly large and I imagine it should hold fish, especially if the river floods it.

I just like exploring and fishing places nobody else has. Sometimes you win. sometimes you just get to drink beer
